Bottas maakt debuut bij Race Of Champions in februari

Valtteri Bottas verlaat Mercedes na dit seizoen en vertrekt in 2022 naar Alfa Romeo. De Fin hoeft zich in 2022 echter niet lang te vervelen want hij zal debuteren op het prestigieuze event Race of Champions (ROC) in Zweden. De 2022-editie is een speciale editie op een bevroren meer.

Bottas heeft nog nooit deelgenomen aan het speciale event. In het verleden waren wel onder meer Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel en Jenson Button van de partij. Dit jaar zal het event voor het eerst op een besneeuwde ondergrond worden gehouden op een bevroren meer in Zweden.

ROC-president Frederik Johnson laat weten dat de komst van de Fin er al geruime tijd in zat. In gesprek met The Race spreekt Johnson zich uit: "Valtteri vertelt ons al jaren dat hij graag mee zou willen doen aan the Race Of Champions en we zijn heel blij om te bevestigen dat hij zijn ROC debuut gaat maken in ons eerste ROC World Final on Snow & Ice."

De races worden op 5 en 6 februari in Pite Havsbad verreden in Zweden. Naast Bottas zijn ook onder andere rallylegende Sebastien Loeb, Le Mans-recordwinnaar Tom Kristensen, stuntpiloot Travis Pastrana en Petter Solberg te vinden op de deelnemerslijst.

Mooi dat de race of the champions weer buiten wordt gehouden, ik vond de indoor versies niet echt spectaculair. Ik ben wel benieuwd naar Bottas, die kan volgens mij aardig rally rijden op sneeuw en ijs.
