Perez ligt niet wakker van éénjarig contract: "Maakt mij niet zoveel uit"

Sergio Perez rijdt sinds dit jaar voor Red Bull. De ervaren Mexicaan kreeg echter maar een contract voor één seizoen en moest hard zijn best doen voor contractverlening. Alhoewel het seizoen nog niet verloopt zoals hij zou willen heeft hij toch contractverlening gekregen, weer met één jaar.

Perez zit er echter niet mee. Het maakt de Mexicaanse Red Bull Racing coureur niet zo bijster veel uit dat hij maar éénjarige contracten krijgt. In gesprek met Motorsport.com gaat hij in op de kwestie: "Eigenlijk maakt het mij niet zoveel uit. Zelfs als je een meerderjarig contract op zak hebt moet je als coureur elk weekend presteren en sta je altijd onder druk om dat te laten zien."

Perez heeft er dan ook geen enkel moment bij stil gestaan. De Mexicaan gaat verder met zijn betoog: "Het is om eerlijk te zijn niet iets waar ik over nadenk. Dat zou het ook niet moeten zijn. Als je het omdraait en denkt van owh ik heb een meerderjarig contract dus ik kan een beetje relaxen, dat zou ook fout zijn. Met die mindset zou ik hier misschien niet eens zijn."

Vooralsnog moet Perez vaak aan de bak. Hij heeft vaak mindere zaterdagen waardoor hij tijdens de races veel goed moet maken om in de buurt te komen van zijn rivalen. In Azerbeidzjan beleefde hij zijn hoogtepunt en won hij de race nadat Max Verstappen uitviel met een klapband.

Perez heeft groot gelijk: Bij RBR racet hij in extra tijd na zijn ontslag bij Racing Point.
Hij heeft 2 GP's gewonnen, en vermoedelijk zal hij er nog wel een paar winnen, dit jaar of volgend.
Hij is financieel binnen.
Goed gedaan jochie. Beste Mexicaanse autocoureur ooit.

  Pedro Rodriguez reed slechts 55 races, maar won ook 2 keer en haalde 7 podium finishes. Dat hadden er meer kunnen zijn als hij niet was overleden op de Norisring...
