Steiner denkt aan ervaren derde coureur

Het team van Haas rijdt dit seizoen met twee rookies achter het stuur. Nikita Mazepin en Mick Schumacher missen de nodige ervaring en dat zorgt soms voor problemen. Nu Haas de contracten van de twee heren heeft verlengd zoeken ze naar een oplossing voor het ervarings-problemen.

Teambaas Günther Steiner is zich bewust van het gebrek aan ervaring. In gesprek met Motorsport.com gaat hij in op het probleem en een mogelijke oplossing: "We hebben geen referentie, we missen een referentiekader. En dat is een ervaren coureur. Ik weet niet precies hoe we het gaan doen. We hebben er al wel wat overgesproken maar er is nog niets opgestart."

Het is voor Steiner vooral belangrijk om aan de benodigde data te komen. Hij wil daarnaast ook weten hoe de huidige coureurs om zullen gaan met de geschetste situatie: "Ik wil zien hoe ze ermee omgaan. En je kunt op basis van de data zien hoeveel progressie ze boeken en dergelijke. Je kunt veel informatie vergaren."
