Hamilton: "Incidenten zijn onderdeel van de sport"

Het is wel duidelijk dat Max Verstappen en Lewis Hamilton dit jaar elkaars grote concurrent zijn. In Monza kwam de grootste aanvaring in hun titelstrijd tot nu toe. Verstappen en Red Bull waren niet bepaald te spreken over het gedrag van Hamilton en consorten en andersom was dit ook zeker het geval.

Hamilton ziet de strijd echter als een minder heftig duel dan vele anderen. Hij ging in gesprek met de Telegraaf in op de rivaliteit: "Ik heb altijd een tegenstander gehad die mij wilde verslaan. Ik rij al geruime tijd vooraan, dat deed ik zelfs al voor mijn Formule 1 dagen."

De zevenvoudig Brits wereldkampioen is ook nog eens vol lof over zijn veel jongere Nederlandse rivaal: "Max geeft nooit op, ik ook niet. Ik heb tegen veel coureurs gereden met dezelfde houding. Sommige zijn slimmer dan anderen. Een seizoen is een marathon, geen sprint. Maar het is leuk voor het publiek om nieuwe karakters te zien doorbreken. Incidenten zijn onderdeel van de sport, ik denk dat we allebei snel de knop omzetten. Zo lang we gezond blijven tenminste."

    Wolff heeft vandaag nogmaals gezegd dat er geen nieuwe pu voor Hamilton in de planning staat, en dat ze de rest vh seizoen met de huidige motoren volmaken.

    Toch is dat wel frappant, aangezien Mercedes al eerder naar hun 3e pu zijn gegaan dan andere teams. We weten natuurlijk de reden bij de Red Bull Honda motoren, maar het lijkt me een lang seizoen (nog 8 races) met de huidige poule

      @76: Misschien zijn de eerste twee motoren nog wel goed bruikbaar op circuits die ietwat minder van de motor vragen....

      Het wordt een beetje saai. Het is duidelijk dat je een hekel hebt aan een specifieke coureur, maar dat weet je zelf ook toch. Vervelen Royalere en jij je inmiddels niet van het posten van negatieve reacties onder alles wat met Hamilton te maken heeft?

      Sommige van die fanboys zitten zo vol wrok en shagrijn dat ze niet eens door hebben dat ze hun eigen sportbeleving vergallen, maar met hun simpele misplaatste eenzijdigheid wel tot groot vermaak van de echte liefhebbers zijn.

      Ik loop in ieder geval niet te trappen naar andere forum leden omdat ik geen gevoel voor humor heb en mijn idool alleen maar de greatest of all time blijkt te zijn wanneer het gaat om zich zo zielig mogelijk te gedragen.

      Leg maar eens uit waarom je bezwaar maakt tegen mijn reactie, maar wat Hamilton in het interview zegt wel prima is. Volgens mij is al mijn kritiek op hem iedere keer volledig terecht.
