Wolff nog steeds geen fan van sprintformat: "Ik vind het helemaal niets"

Gister werd duidelijk dat de Formule 1 nog lang niet af is van de sprintkwalificatie. Het nieuwe format zal in 2022 bij 1/3 van de raceweekenden worden toegepast. Niet iedereen is fan van het format, enkele grote spelers in de sport zijn nogal kritisch.

Een van de criticasters is Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff. De Oostenrijker is het format liever kwijt dan rijk. In gesprek met Sky Sports laat hij zich horen: "Commercieel gezien zijn de sprints een voordeel omdat we dan een volle vrijdag hebben, een mini race op zaterdag en de Grand Prix op zondag."

Maar verder ziet Wolff er geen heil in: "Ik vind het sprintrace format op zaterdag helemaal niets. Er is te weinig te verdienen en veel te verliezen want je wil niet achterop de grid beginnen. Misschien moeten we de punten of de lengte van de race veranderen." Wolff heeft zijn lolbroek aan en komt met een suggestie met een knipoog: "Als het alleen om de start draait kunnen we twee rondjes doen."

    Ik ook niet, maar het levert op zaterdag extra publiek dus extra inkomsten. Geld, geld en nog eens geld is de enige reden dat de FIA dit doet.

      Je beseft dat hij een gekleurde mening heeft? Hij kan letterlijk alleen maar verliezen met een sprintrace want de MB startpositie kan er alleen maar door achteruit gaan.
      Laat dat nou net de reden zijn waarom het merendeel van de mensen de sprintrace wel leuk vinden

    Wolff heeft helemaal gelijk , maar z'n 'oplossing' is een beetje halfslachtig. Wat heb je er nu aan om de race langer of korter te maken ? Paar extra puntjes... prima, maar

    Er is maar 1 oplossing, en dat is de kwalificatie de kwalificatie laten. Geen zorgen meer om op zaterdag uit te vallen, VT2 heeft dan ook nog waarde, en het publiek ziet een extra race per weekend.
