Charles Leclerc enthousiast over nieuwe Ferrari-motor: "Die is sneller"

Charles Leclerc kan terugkijken op een goede eerste dag van de Turkse Grand Prix in Istanbul. Tijdens de tweede vrije training nestelde de Monegask zich tussen beide Mercedessen in. Leclerc was slechts 0,166 seconde langzamer dan Lewis Hamilton in de Mercedes. Tijdens de eerste vrije training was Leclerc ook al snel: toen kwam hij tot de derde snelste tijd achter Hamilton en Verstappen.

Leclerc laat bij ZiggoSport desgevraagd weten hoe hem de nieuwe Ferrari-krachtbron bevalt: "Die is sneller. Het is geen gamechanger, maar het is sneller. Het gaat de goede kant op, dus wij zijn daar allemaal heel erg blij mee."

Carlos Sainz werd vijfde en twaalfde tijdens de vrijdagse trainingen op Intercity Istanbul Park.

Tijdens de Russische Grand Prix van twee weken geleden moest Leclerc achteraan starten omdat hij de nieuwe krachtbron in zijn auto kreeg. Dit weekend gebeurt dat bij Carlos Sainz. Dat zijn teamgenoot nu ook beschikt over de nieuwe motor is volgens Leclerc alleen maar goed: hoe meer data hoe beter, zo redeneert hij in gesprek met Jack Plooij van ZiggoSport.

Leclerc: "Wij hebben nu meer data en dat is altijd goed voor de engineers. We verzamelen nu meer kilometers ermee en daardoor leren we er meer over. Dat is allemaal goed, zeker gezien de voorbereidingen voor volgend jaar die we nu een beetje vroeg in het seizoen kunnen doen, dat is heel goed."

Leclerc is dan ook positief gestemd over zijn kansen dit weekend tijdens de Turkse Grand Prix op Intercity Istanbul Park. Hij hoopt dat hij een soortgelijke vorm als die van vorig jaar kan vinden "om voor goede dingen" te strijden.

  Wie weet, maar wat Leclerc hier verteld vind ik toch raar, want motor upgrades mochten toch niet meer, geen performance upgrades alleen betrouwbaarheids upgrades toegestaan, of vergis ik me hierin ?

  Ik volg dat geregel niet aandachtig. Maar volgens mij werd niet de gehele blok maar vervangen maar een onderdeel. Onderdelen mogen nog wel upgrades krijgen? Heeft het ook niet te maken met de eindstand van het vorige seizoen, hetgeen voor Ferrari dramatisch was? Sommige teams mogen dan langer ontwikkelen?
