Steiner het zonnetje in huis: "Zodra we een betere auto hebben kunnen we punten scoren"

In Turkije was er eindelijk een klein lichtpuntje voor het geplaagde team van Haas. Mick Schumacher wist door te stoten tot Q2 en mocht de race als veertiende starten. Het is een positieve gebeurtenis in aanloop naar de Amerikaanse thuisrace van het team.

De prima kwalificatie van Schumacher geeft de burger moed. Het team rijdt rond met twee rookies ,ook Mazepin is immers een debutant, en dat zorgt nog wel eens voor moeilijkheden. Het is immers een leerproces voor beide coureurs. Dat zorgt nog wel eens voor brokken.

Volgend jaar

In Istanbul viel dit echter nauwelijks op. Dat is tenminste de visie van teambaas Günther Steiner. In gesprek met Motorsport.com is hij positief: "We zijn klaar voor het volgende jaar. Het gaat prima met ons. Ja, we zullen zeker hier en daar nog wat foutjes maken maar in Turkije lag er een kans. Die hebben ze gegrepen alsof ze al jaren met elkaar samenwerken."

Punten

De prestaties in Turkije zorgen ervoor dat Steiner weer durft te dromen. De Italiaan ziet de toekomst zonnig te gemoed: "Iedereen deed wat hij moest doen, ook de monteurs. Dat maakt mij heel erg blij omdat het laat zien dat we er klaar voor zijn. Zodra we over een betere auto beschikken is dit team klaar om punten te scoren."

    Ik ben vandaag ook erg vrolijk. Ik realiseerde me vanmorgen ineens dat als ik de afgelopen jaren voor Mercedes had gereden en het talent van Hamilton had, dan had ik al 6 x WK geweest!

    Er zijn altijd mensen die gecharmeerd zijn van zulke teams. Maar het is natuurlijk dramatisch zulke teams. Het is F1 onwaardig. Geen geld, geen ambities, waardeloze auto en slechte coureurs.

      Goh, het is dubbel.
      Enerzijds is datgene dat ze tonen redelijk beschamend. Ook al wordt er, als we het mogen geloven, vooral ingezet op 2022. Maar uit dergelijke teams vloeien soms succesvolle piloten, techniekers e.a.

      En als het Haas niet is, zou het Williams of een andere team zijn dat als laatste aansluit/ eindigt in een WK...met dezelfde consequenties.

      Liever een Haas diep achteraan dan een F1 met 'maar' 18 of minder piloten op de grid.

      Hoe Haas het de laatste 2 jaar aanpakt is niemand van gecharmeerd, maar is helaas voor hen noodzakelijk na het debacle met Rich Energy.

      Ik vond Minardi, Force India en Manor leuke teams.... hoewel ze weinig centen te makken hadden verschenen ze toch met updates en leuke coureurs. Dat waren leuke underdog verhalen.

      Haas dat letterlijk alleen op komt dagen met 0 moeite er iets van te maken is beschamend voor het team, de sport en alles rondom het merk.

      Force India werd met praktisch dezelfde mensen zelfs 4e in het WK. Nu staan ze 7e met hun mooie budget. Bij Haas begrijpen ze hun eigen auto niet zeggen ze. Nu word hij voor het grootste gedeelte gebouwd in Maranello, dus dan weet je het wel weer volgend jaar.

    Nou, als je de teugels in het team wat eerder strakker had aangehaald, was het aantal DNF's beduidend lager geweest. Wellicht had je dan nu al wat meer punten gehad maar men heeft elkaar en anderen toch best vaak in de wielen gereden. Desalniettemin gun ik ze van harte om aansluiting te krijgen bij de middenmoot, subtop zoals je wilt.
