Grosjean haalt herinneringen op aan Räikkönen: "Recht voor je raap, geen lange zinnen"

In een grijs verleden waren Romain Grosjean en Kimi Räikkönen teammaatjes bij het team van Lotus. In 2012 kwamen ze allebei bij het team terecht. Räikkönen keerde terug van zijn rallyavonturen en Grosjean was GP2-kampioen geworden. Nu blijkt dat de Fin Grosjean op geheel eigen wijze welkom heette bij het team.

Grosjean werd eind 2011 als tweede coureur van het team gepresenteerd. In de podcast In The Fast Lane vertelt de Fransman hoe Räikkönen hem benaderde: "Zijn conversatie was het tegenovergestelde van zijn loopbaan: kort! Maar het was wel open. We konden alles deden en het was goed. Ik kan mij herinneren dat ik na mijn bevestiging een berichtje kreeg, dat was eind 2011. Hij appte mij: 'Leuk voor jou, laten we geen bullshit tussen ons creëren. Zie je snel.'"

Volgens Grosjean was typisch voor hoe Räikkönen te werk ging: "Dat was Kimi. Recht voor je raap, geen lange zinnen. Hij wilde gewoon gaan en leuk racen. Ik bewonder dat. De afgelopen jaren heeft hij geen goede auto gehad dus hij kan alleen doen wat hij doet. Maar Kimi is één van de beste coureurs van de afgelopen 20 jaar."
