Perez dichtbij pole: "We waren heel close bij het laatste rondje"

Lang twijfelde men of Sergio Perez wel de geschikte wingman was voor Max Verstappen. Maar in Austin bewees hij alweer dat hij perfect in staat is om in de buurt van de Nederlander te blijven. Hij reed een sterke kwalificatie en pakte de derde startplek.

Het leek er lange tijd op dat Perez zelfs pole ging pakken. Een snellere tijd van Verstappen en een ieniemienie buitje gooide roet in het eten. Na afloop verscheen Perez voor de microfoon van Danica Patrick: "Ja we waren heel close tijdens dat laatste rondje. Ik denk dat we het als team top hebben gedaan."

Toch is de Mexicaan realistisch, de dag van morgen is immers lang. Hij is zich bewust van dat feit: "Morgen is het een hele lange race. Ik denk dat de kwalificatie positie niet geheel relevant is. Er zal veel degradatie zijn op deze banden. Ik kijk er gewoon naar uit!"

    Ik had gisteren echt zo iets van; Je laat Perez toch geen pole rijden als RB zijnde als Max pole kan pakken?
    Die moet gewoon netjes als 2e tussen Max en Lewis instaan... Gelukkig nog rechtgezet voor Max maar uiteindelijke positie van Perez toch weer jammerlijk achter Lewis...
