Horner weet waarom Perez beter presteert: "Kwestie van vertrouwen"

Sergio Perez heeft in een aantal weken tijd alle twijfel omtrent zijn persoon weggenomen. De Mexicaan heeft een aantal puike races achter de rug. Red Bull is dan ook zeer tevreden met de prestaties van Perez. Teambaas Christian Horner denkt wel te weten waar de successen ineens vandaan komen.

Perez kende eerder in het seizoen een moeizame periode. Na zijn winst in Azerbeidzjan ging het steeds wat minder maar kreeg hij desondanks contractverlening. Hij betaalde het vertrouwen dubbel en dwars terug en eindigde in Turkije en Amerika gewoon op het podium.

Vertrouwen

Bij Motorsport.com verklaart zijn teambaas Christian Horner het succes: "Ik denk dat het gaat om een kwestie van vertrouwen. Het zat er de afgelopen paar races al aan te komen. Zowel in Monza als op Sotsji was hij sterk. Hij had bij allebei die wedstrijden op het podium moeten eindigen. In Turkije was hij zeer sterk en ook in Austin had hij het hele weekend een goede pace te pakken. Het is gewoon een kwestie van vertrouwen."

Afstelling

Perez begint zich ook steeds meer thuis te voelen in zijn Red Bull. Ook hier heeft Horner een verklaring voor: "Ik denk dat we nu een afstelling kunnen vinden die hem goed ligt. We kunnen de auto ietsje meer aanpassen aan zijn rijstijl. Nu komen er een paar belangrijke wedstrijden aan dus het is belangrijk dat hij blijft doen wat hij het afgelopen weekend deed."

Voor de spanning in het kampioenschap hoop ik dat hij dit niveau kan vasthouden. Max en Lewis zijn doorgaans net wat te rap, maar hij kan wellicht mooi structureel een strijd tegen Valtteri voeren, zodat Max niet meer (strategisch) in zijn eentje tegen twee Mercedessen hoeft te knokken.

Voor de spanning in het kampioenschap hoop ik dat hij dit niveau kan vasthouden. Max en Lewis zijn doorgaans net wat te rap, maar hij kan wellicht mooi structureel een strijd tegen Valtteri voeren, zodat Max niet meer (strategisch) in zijn eentje tegen twee Mercedessen hoeft te knokken.

  in kwali 2 tiende. ongeveer. In de race gemiddeld een seconde per ronde. Een seconde is niks inderdaad.
  
  Ik vind het erg teleurstellend dat Perez nu pas in de buurt kan komen.
