Grote baas Mercedes ziet moeilijke strijd: "Het wordt heel lastig"

In Brazilië vervolgen Max Verstappen en Lewis Hamilton dit weekend hun spannende titelstrijd. Momenteel heeft Verstappen een redelijk riante voorsprong gepakt op Hamilton. Steeds meer en meer kenners beginnen de Nederlandse Red Bull-piloot te zien als de grote favoriet voor de wereldtitel.

In Sao Paulo wordt Red Bull ook weer gezien als de favoriet. De afgelopen paar races op het Autódromo José Carlos Pace was Red Bull immers zeer succesvol. In 2019 won Verstappen de laatste Grand Prix op het circuit en een nieuwe winstpartij zou het voor Hamilton en Mercedes nog veel moeilijker maken.

Bij Mercedes zijn ze dan ook niet meer zo zeker van hun zaak. Ook bij moederbedrijf Daimler houden ze hun adem in. Daimler-CEO Ola Källenius spreekt zich bij de Duitse krant Bild uit over de strijd. De Zweed is eerlijk: "Het wordt heel lastig maar als racer vecht je door tot het einde. Maar we weten tenminste één ding zeker, het duel tussen Lewis en Max is de beste show in jaren."
