Giovinazzi gaat Formule E rijden in 2022

Vandaag werd duidelijk dat Antonio Giovinazzi's Formule 1-loopbaan na dit seizoen tot een einde komt. De Italiaan vertrekt na dit seizoen bij het team van Alfa Romeo en wordt vervangen door Guanyu Zhou. Maar hij hoeft zich niet lang te vervelen.

Giovinazzi heeft namelijk bekend gemaakt dat hij voor volgend jaar al weer nieuw werk heeft gevonden. De Italiaan heeft een contract getekend bij het Formule E-team van Dragon Penske. Hij wordt daar de teamgenoot van Sergio Sette Camara.

Hij is zelf heel tevreden met zijn nieuwe stap in zijn carrière. Hij wordt geciteerd door Crash.net: "Zodra het bekend werd dat ik volgend jaar niet in de Formule 1 ga rijden heb ik besloten in de Formule E te gaan rijden. Het is een categorie die ik altijd al heb gevolgd."

Toch bijzonder… vraag aan een F1 coureur wat ze van de FE vinden en ze zijn nooit echt positief. Zodra ze geen zitje meer hebben zijn ze opeens erg geïnteresseerd en hebben ze de FE ‘altijd al met interesse gevolgd’

    Mooi dat hij kan blijven racen en benieuwd wat hij in de FE gaat laten zien.

      Het eerste jaar zou even wennen zijn aan de regeneratie.

      Ik persoonlijk wacht met smart op de Gen3 auto die een jaar later komt... dat lijken toch wel kleine wilde monsters te worden.

      Rogier hier@ dat geld toch ook voor LMP2 en GT's of Super Formula...

      De meeste F1 coureurs zien hun carrière graag eindigen in F1. Een enkeling ambieert daarna nog Indycar, LMP1, DTM of een vorm van rally(cross). Maar daar heb je maar een beperkt aantal stoeltjes dat lekker betaald.

      Niemand zit echt te wachten op LMP2, Blancpain, Supercars, Superformula of touringcars...

      Wil je dan toch nog wat centen verdienen en Indycar en LMP1 is bezet... dan moet je wel naar een commerciële klasse als FE. Het is beter voor de portemonnee dan GT's of LMP2's en de prive teams van DTM.

      @Larry: zelfs dan zul je weinig geluiden van onze Gio kunnen waarnemen, wanneer hij Nyck vervolgens te grazen neemt volgens de 'Silence of the Lambs' methode ;-)
