Binotto ziet reversed grid wel zitten: "Moeten we overwegen voor sprints"

De sprintkwalificaties maken niet bepaald indruk op de fans en teams. In Brazilië werd de sprint een beetje opgeleukt door de inhaalrace van Lewis Hamilton. De Brit moest na een illegale achtervleugel helemaal achteraan starten en wist op sterke wijze de vijfde plaats te bereiken.

De inhaalrace van Hamilton woekert de discussie over een omgekeerde startopstelling weer aan. Hamilton liet immers zien dat het weldegelijk mogelijk is om vanuit het achterveld naar voren te rijden. Vooral het team van Ferrari is wel fan van dit plan.

Teambaas Mattia Binotto is in ieder geval enthousiast. Hij deelt zijn optimisme met Motorsport.com: "Eerlijk gezegd denk ik dat het werkt. Dat komt door alle inhaalacties, dat is gewoon heel erg leuk om naar te kijken. Ik denk dat we het moeten overwegen voor de sprints. We hebben nu gezien wat er dan gebeurt, nu hoeven we er niet lang over te discussiëren."

Gewoon niet doen. Slaat werkelijk waar helemaal nergens op en druist volledig in tegen de geest van de sport!
Daarbij denk ik ook dat het helemaal niet gaat werken en dat je hele rare kwalificaties krijgt. Men gaat namelijk niet meer proberen om de snelste tijd neer te zetten, maar juist de langz... [Lees verder]

    ja, dat was te verwachten na afgelopen zaterdag. Niet dat ik voor of tegen ben, maar vergeet ook niet dat diezelfde Hamilton dit jaar op andere circuits soms wel een halve race of een hele sprintrace klem zat achter auto's die hij afgelopen weekend voorbij reed alsof ze stil stonden. Kies dus op zn minst wel de goede circuits uit voor reversed grid races. Of laten we eerst even afwachten wat de nieuwe auto's betekenen voor de verhoudingen op de baan.

    Daarbij denk ik ook dat het helemaal niet gaat werken en dat je hele rare kwalificaties krijgt. Men gaat namelijk niet meer proberen om de snelste tijd neer te zetten, maar juist de langzaamste. En wat als iemand vanwege technische problemen niet kan rijden in de kwali, krijgt die dan automatisch pole?

      Als wij, peupel, deze zorgen kunnen bedenken, zal er in die hele F1 wereld toch wel één slimmerik rondlopen? Ik denk echter wel dat Binotto hier onvolledig geciteerd wordt. Hij bedoelt dit wellicht als sprintraces een soort van nieuwe competitie wordt, zoals vorige week ook al geopperd in een artikel. Dan staat die format los van kwali en race. Anders lijkt het mij inderdaad compleet onmogelijk of zodanig gereglementeert dat niemand er noch kop noch staart aan kan vasthangen.

    Ik zou liever zien dat een coureur 3 rondes krijgt om een tijd te rijden. Geen geneuzel meer over ophouden enz enz. Coureurs moeten dan ouderwets een nummertje trekken en in mijn ogen zal dit wel aardig wat verrassingen kunnen opleveren. Want wie wanneer de baan op mag maakt nogal uit, die als laatste mag kan op een droog circuit echt wel voordeel hebben. Die sprintraces zijn echt ruk en moeten gewoon verdwijnen.

    ik zal wel een ouwe l*l zijn, maar blijf aub met je tengels van mijn sport af. sprint races, reversed grid, hoepel toch op! bijna elke kwalificatie is rete spannend en de meeste races zitten de nummers 1 en de achtervolgers op een paar seconden van elkaar. Elk seizoen wint een middemoter wel minstens een race.
    in de jaren 90 waren de verschillen in zowel kwalificatie als race soms gigantisch. Men lijkt echt niet te beseffen hoe dicht het allemaal bij elkaar zit en al dat kunstmatig gedoe helemaal niet nodig is!
