Ervaringsdeskundige Perez moest toch wennen: "Heb hier gereden toen ik nog jonger was"

Sergio Perez was één van de weinige coureurs die al wat ervaring had op het Losail International Circuit. De Mexicaanse Red Bull-coureur had er al eens gereden in de GP2 Asia Series. Toch leek het er niet op dat hij er op vrijdag van profiteerde want hij werd twee keer achtste.

Desondanks zijn ervaring moest Perez toch wennen. Hij sprak zich uit in een persverklaring van zijn team: "Ik heb op deze baan gereden toen ik nog veel jonger was. Het begint langzaam terug te komen nu ik hier weer heb gereden. Ik heb echter niet het idee dat ik een voordeel heb op anderen."

Perez was twee keer de achtste man op het uitslagenformulier maar dat betekent niet dat hij niet tevreden is. "Ik denk dat we een goede start hebben gehad vandaag. Maar we hebben wat veranderingen toegepast tussen de sessies door. Die moeten we bespreken. Vooral op de softs."

Er is geen voordeel meer vandaag de dag door alle voorbereidingen op de simulator en drie vrije trainingen. Iedereen kwam zo snel aan hun eigen pace dat je totaal niet het idee had dat ze hier de afgelopen jaren ook hebben gereden.
