Alonso pakt derde plaats maar dacht oprecht om Hamilton aan te vallen: "Ik wilde de race leiden"

Fernando Alonso stond in 2014 voor het laatst op het podium tijdens de Grand Prix van Hongarije in een Ferrari. De jaren erna lukte het niet en was hij kortstondig ook niet actief. Eerder won zijn teamgenoot dit jaar al een Grand Prix, en nu lukte het de Spanjaard om ook het seizoen af te sluiten met een podium op zijn palmares van 2021.

De Alpine's waren dit weekend erg snel en voorspelden al een goed weekend te krijgen. Hoewel het afwachten was hoe de banden zich zouden houden bleek dit niet een groot probleem voor de meeste teams, zoals Alpine.

Hamilton verschalken

Bij de start lukte het Alonso om de tweede plaats te pakken, maar zelf zei hij na afloop dat hij vooraf serieus dacht om Hamilton te kunnen inhalen en de leiding te pakken. De 40-jarige Spanjaard: "Ongelooflijk. Het duurde 7 jaar maar eindelijk is het me gelukt. We zaten er een paar races dichtbij, zoals in Sotsji, maar dat was niet genoeg."

"Om eerlijk te zijn dacht ik vandaag de race zou kunnen leiden. Op de rode band dacht ik Lewis te kunnen verslaan, maar dat lukte uiteindelijk niet. Op het einde werd het nog spannend met Checo Perez maar ik ben blij voor het team ook omdat Esteban op P5 is geëindigd."

"We hadden vanaf het begin 1 stop in de planning maar wisten niet hoe de slijtage was voor iedereen, maar het is goed uitgepakt, de pitstops gingen goed en de betrouwbaarheid was ook super. Ik geniet hier enorm van, fuck wat heb ik hier lang op gewacht!"

Prachtig. Eerlijk gezegd was ik sceptisch over zijn rentree, maar de oude vos heeft weer mooie dingen laten zien dit seizoen!

Vroeger was ik fan van Alonso eigenlijk tot het moment dat max in de F1 kwam maar nu hij dit weer laat zien herinnerde ik weer waarom ik zo een groot fan was van Fernando

Geweldig voor beide heren van alpine. Alonso houden goed stand tegen RB van perez, dit heeft hen zeker deugd gedaan na zolang geen podium te behalen

Mooi dat Alonso dit nog te brengen heeft. Je ziet dat hij iets extra's te brengen heeft. Ook zoals hij Verstappen probeerde te verdedigen blijkt iets uit.

Wel heb ik het idee dat de oude Alonso in termen van zijn afkeurenswaardige gedrag een beetje terug aan het komen is.

Hij is wel meer onderdeel van het team ipv dat hij er boven staat zoals in het verleden. Maar de opmerkingen in de media over dat het zou uitmaken welke nationaliteit je hebt voor de FIA en hun beslissingen en praten over andere coureurs, inxlusief makkelijke trashtalk waarbij hij zijjneigen beperkingen in het verleden vergeten lijkt te zijn, geven wel wat aan.
