Kan Alfa Romeo het seizoen afmaken?

Alfa Romeo verkeert in een lastige fase omdat het bijzonder weinig reserveonderdelen tot haar beschikking heeft. Met nog twee races te gaan zijn de reserveonderdelen op en is het de vraag of het team het seizoen 2021 zelfs wel kan afmaken.

Het Losail-circuit in Qatar had hoge kerbstones wat zorgde voor flinke beschadigingen aan de vloeren van de F1-wagens. Ook Alfa Romeo had daar last van bij zowel Kimi Raikkonen als Antonio Giovinazzi. Het Italiaanse team gebruikt momenteel de laatste paar vloeren die ze tot haar beschikking hebben en dus kan het team in de problemen komen.

Vrachtcrisis zorgt voor vertragingen

Twee beschadigde bodemplaten werden na Brazilië teruggebracht naar Hinwil voor reparaties, en het team racet nu tegen de klok om ze op tijd terug te krijgen voor Saoedi-Arabië. Teammanager Beat Zehnder geeft toe dat het team in een lastige situatie zit: "Zo laat in het seizoen bouw je dit soort nieuwe onderdelen niet. Het duurt 20 dagen om een nieuwe vloer te produceren."

Ondertussen is het de taak van Zehnder om de complexe logistiek te beheren om de gerepareerde vloeren naar Saoedi-Arabië te krijgen te midden van de aanhoudende corona-gerelateerde wereldwijde vrachtcrisis. Zehnder: "Ze moeten via Riyad en er is altijd het gevaar van vertragingen."

Niet in actie in Saoedi-Arabië

Als de vloeren van Raikkonen en Giovinazzi tijdens de race in Qatar beschadigd zijn geraakt, betekent dit dat het team mogelijk niet in actie kan komen in Saoedi-Arabië, zo zegt teambaas Frederic Vasseur tegen Blick.

Bernie zorgde altijd wel dat er een vliegtuigje of kameel in de woestijn klaar stond om een team te helpen in nood. Lijkt me dat dit nu niet anders zal zijn en dat de FOM er alles aan gelegen is om dit team op de grid te houden voor de resterende races als dit de oorzaak is.

  Bernie gaf ze hooguit een vervroegde uitbetaling. Dat was dus sowieso hun eigen geld. Het probleem is nu dat Sauber gewoon niet goed voor elkaar heeft dat de onderdelen op tijd aankomen op de plek waar ze moeten aankomen. Dit heeft waarschijnlijk te maken met het geld dat besteed kon worden aan processen die zekerheid brengen dat de distributie op orde is.
  
  Ik zou eerder zeggen dat Vasseur gewoon de fout heeft gemaakt dit team om te vormen naar een soort junior-formula-team en de afhankelijkheid van met name Ferrari te vergroten, waardoor op het moment dat deze grote broer deels wegviel, ze in hun eentje stonden. Ze hadden gewoon die Honda-deal moeten aanhouden. Dan hadden ze iig geld gehad. En op termijn ook prestaties, zoals we gezien hebben. En wellicht dat ze al overgenomen waren door Honda en dat Honda dan gebleven was.
  Eigenlijk hadden ze Kaltenborn moeten aanhouden.

Nee die bouw je niet Zhou laat in het seizoen want je moet zorgen dat je die gewoon heb liggen. Alleen hebben ze daar dus het geld gewoon niet voor en dat is toch wat anders. Volgend jaar misschien wat imitatie uit China halen.

Kijk even naar de foto van de box er staan geen sponsoren op denk dat het eerder een geld kwestie is.

  Tuurlijk speelt geld mee want je nieuwe vloer die voor de laatste race klaar is kun je na die race in de afvalbak donderen. RB moest ook al bij produceren omdat er te weinig reserve onderdelen waren. Voor hun staat er veel op het spel dus dat rechtvaardigd die uitgaven.

Vandaag precies 9 jaar geleden (2012) liet het Spaanse F1 team HRT weten dat ze het weekend in Brazilië gingen afmaken maar dat hun werknemers op maandag naar een nieuwe baan moesten zoeken omdat ze de stekker eruit gingen trekken.

Zover is het bij Sauber (AlfaRomeo) gelukkig niet maar ik moest hier toch even aan denken.
