Hülkenberg leeft mee met Verstappen: "Kan begrijpen dat Max volgas door reed"

Het meest besproken moment van afgelopen weekend was ongetwijfeld de gridstraf van Max Verstappen. De Nederlander moest vijf plaatsen naar achteren in Qatar nadat hij dubbele gele vlaggen had genegeerd in de kwalificatie. Het was een listig moment aangezien Gasly was stilgevallen en een ijverige marshall door bleef vlaggen.

De beslissing van de stewards liet vrij lang op zich wachten waardoor Verstappen pas vlak voor de wedstrijd hoorde van zijn straf. Nico Hülkenberg begrijpt wel dat Verstappen door bleef rijden in de kwalificatie. Bij ServusTV spreekt hij zich uit: "Ik kan het begrijpen dat Max daar volgas is doorgereden. De auto stond rechts, de marshall links. De man heeft op eigen initiatief door gezwaaid terwijl de wedstrijdleiding het niet nodig vond."

Na afloop van de race zocht Verstappen de desbetreffende marshall nog even op en ging het duo samen op de foto. Hülkenberg genoot van dat moment: "Max laat menselijkheid en grootsheid zien door naar de marshall te gaan en op de foto te gaan."

    "Max laat menselijkheid en grootsheid zien door naar de marshall te gaan en op de foto te gaan."

    Ik wou ook met Max op de foto, maar hij keek me aan en zei: dat gaan we dus niet doen hé ouwe, jij bent geen fan van me naast de baan, waarop ik zei: ja Max, maar wel van de coureur Max..... maar hij was alweer weg.
