Verstappen volledig gefocust naar Jeddah: "Geen ruimte voor fouten"

Aankomend weekend staat de Grand Prix van Saoedi-Arabië voor het eerst op de planning. Max Verstappen zal hier zijn zware titelstrijd met Lewis Hamilton gaan vervolgen. De Nederlandse Red Bull-coureur kan er met enig geluk zelfs wereldkampioen worden. Maar Verstappen loopt niet te ver op de feiten vooruit.

Op de vooravond van de eerste Saoedische Grand Prix houdt de klassementsleider zijn hoofd volledig koel. Op zijn website blikt hij vooruit op het restant van het titanenduel: "Ik voel mij relaxed. Ik weet dat ik altijd mijn best zal doen. We zien wel waar we eindigen. Er is nog niets beslist en we zijn dan ook allemaal klaar voor de uitdaging."

Simulator

Verstappen en zijn collega's zullen vrijdag voor het eerst kennis gaan maken met de gloednieuwe baan aan de Saoedische kust. De Limburger heeft zich zo goed mogelijk voorbereid: "Ik heb de baan geoefend op de simulator. Het is een snelle baan dus er is geen ruimte voor fouten. Vanzelfsprekend zal het altijd een beetje giswerk blijven, we hebben nog nooit op de baan gereden."

Interessant

Desondanks de geringe ervaring kijkt de Red Bull-coureur wel reikhalzend uit naar de gloednieuwe race. "Het wordt heel erg interessant en ik kijk uit naar de uitdaging. Het was leuk om dit jaar naar meerdere verschillende nieuwe circuits te gaan."

    als ik zo de artikelen zie kan het hier beter cliché-today gaan heten; allemaal zijn ze gemotiveerd, er is geen ruimte voor fouten, allemaal gefoccused; benieuwd naar het circuit, set-up word belangrijk, klaar voor de uitdaging et cetera...

      Modest; ja, ik wil wat drama en graag echt nieuws, die constant uitgekauwde clichés van de heren coureurs, teambazen en dergelijke, verspreid over zo veel mogelijk artikelen vind ik wat jammer. Lijkt ook wel of journalisten niet in staat zijn om relevante vragen te stellen waarop de heren niet alleen met pr-onzin kunnen antwoorden. Is er nog een journalist die meer kan dan vragen: 'wat denk je van de komende race'?

      gewoon zo af en toe... beetje leven in de tent! Zullen we anders over corona of zwarte piet beginnen? 😁
