Alonso ziet opmerkelijk feit: "We hadden heel veel grip"

Ervaren rot Fernando Alonso kreeg in Saoedi-Arabië ineens weer te maken met een gloednieuw circuit. Net als zijn collega's begon ook Alonso weer eens op nul. Hij deed het zeker niet slecht met een negende en een vijfde plaats als resultaat.

Net als zovelen keek Alonso terug op een zeer leuke middag op het Jeddah Corniche Circuit. Tegenover de internationale media sprak hij zich uit: "Het was een leuke dag vandaag en ik vind de baan ook leuk. Elke nieuwe baan vereist veel werk en ik denk dat we daar goed doorheen zijn gekomen vandaag."

Alonso merkte iets op wat ook al door andere coureurs werd besproken. Hij was positief verrast: "Dit circuit voelt precies zo snel als we hadden verwacht. Maar het lijkt erop dat we ook veel grip hebben. Dat is een leuke verrassing, dat is bijzonder voor een stratencircuit. De Formule 2 hielp ons vandaag door het asfalt op te ruimen."

    Ik geniet echt enorm van deze man dit seizoen. Ik denk ook dat ik van alle coureurs het liefst naar hem heb gekeken in de Ferrari. Schumacher ook in zijn eerste jaren, maar daarna was het veel minder spannend. Maar bij Alonso zat ik, ondanks de mindere wagens, altijd op het puntje van mijn stoel. Altijd maximaliseren, meer uit de wagen halen dan erin zit en met het mes tussen de tanden.

    Hij laat ook zien dat snelheid alleen blijft als je het koppelt aan mentaliteit. En dan bedoel ik die absolute wil om te winnen. Schumacher zijn comeback mistte dat, net zoals Vettel dat inmiddels verloren lijkt te zijn. Daarom lukt het Alonso nog wel om op zijn 40e extreem competitief te zijn.

    Altijd al mn held geweest sinds 2003 en zelfs in 2021 hoort ie voor mij bij de top 3. Zet hem in die 2e RedBull en ik ben benieuwd hoeveel hij daar uit kan persen vergeleken met Perez.

    Ik geniet van 'm. Hopen dat de Alpine een beetje mee kan komen volgend seizoen.
