Training-crash dreunde nog na bij Leclerc: "Deed even mijn ogen dicht!"

Het Jeddah Corniche Circuit werd van te voren gevreesd door de coureurs. De baan is bloedsnel maar ook absurd krap. Hierdoor is het altijd mogelijk dat er een zwaar ongeval gebeurt. Tot nu toe is er slechts één coureur die hard in de muur is gevlogen, Charles Leclerc in de tweede training.

De Ferrari-coureur nam gisteren sportief revanche en kwalificeerde zich als vierde. Hierdoor kan hij gaan schitteren in de race van vandaag. De heftige crash dreunt toch nog wel wat na in het hoofd van de Monegask. Hij geeft dat ook ruimschoots toe.

Ogen dicht

In zijn razendsnelle rondje schoot de klapper nog even door zijn hoofd. Bij Autosport besprak hij het: "Het rondje was heel, heel erg goed. Ik reed echt helemaal op de limiet. In bocht 22 deed ik wel eventjes mijn ogen dicht en het ging ook nog eens goed!"

Uitdrukking

Overigens wil Leclerc nog even aangeven dat hij niet echt zijn ogen sloot. De vrolijke Ferrari-piloot legt het nog eventjes uit: "Met de ogen dicht is trouwens gewoon een uitdrukking. Ik weet zeker dat ik ze open had! Maar goed, ik verloor de achterkant weer. Eerlijk gezegd denk ik dat het hetzelfde zou gaan gebeuren als gisteren. Maar ik hield hem nu op de baan en het lukte! Ik was zo blij!"
