Perez neemt Leclerc niets kwalijk: "Charles kon er niet zoveel aan doen"

Sergio Perez leek in Saoedi-Arabië zijn teamgenoot Max Verstappen de nodige rugdekking te kunnen geven. Maar bij de eerste herstart ging het mis en knalde hij de muur in na aanraking met Charles Leclerc. Hij veroorzaakte een kettingreactie en zag daardoor ook Nikita Mazepin en George Russell uitvallen.

Na afloop was Perez terneergeslagen. Hij haalde teleurgesteld zijn schouders op. Bij Sky Sports sprak hij zich uit: "Het was gewoon een ongelukkig incident. Ik denk dat Charles er niet zoveel aan kon doen. Op dat moment had ik niet meer verwacht dat hij er nog zou zitten omdat er niet genoeg ruimte meer was voor hem." de stewards waren het met Perez eens en hierdoor wordt er ook niet meer naar gekeken.

Perez had nog eventjes goede hoop dat hij zijn weg nog kon vervolgen maar het was ijdele hoop. Hij redeneert even verder: "Toen gingen we de samen de bocht in. Ik raakte hem en we hadden jammer genoeg contact. We hadden de gedachte dat we de restart konden halen maar hij was nogal heet. Dus helaas, we konden niet herstarten."
