Perez wil seizoen weer op gang trekken in Silverstone

Sergio Perez is vastberaden om in de Grand Prix van Groot-Brittannië de draad van het begin van dit seizoen weer op te pikken. Sinds zijn crash in de kwalificatie voor de Grand Prix van Monaco stagneert de boel een beetje. Op Silverstone wil de Mexicaan de zaken weer op gang trekken.

Perez: Het ongeluk in Monaco gebeurde omdat ik zo hard pushte dat weekend. Ik gaf alles omdat dat een circuit is waar een coureur het verschil kan maken. Ik zat al in Q3, dus ik was lekker bezig tot die crash, toen ik het weekend verloor. Mijn teamgenoot, die achter mij zou starten, eindigde als vijfde. Voor hem was het een mooi weekend, maar voor mij was het een gemiste kans en ook in Canada kon ik niet racen.

Onder de streep staan voor mij pas twee punten, al verloopt het seizoen wel vrij goed tot nu toe. Ik ben alleen het momentum kwijtgeraakt door die onderbreking. In Barcelona scoorde ik mijn eerste punten en in Monaco ging het ook goed tot het laatste deel van de kwalificatie. Silverstone is een goed moment om mijn seizoen weer op gang te trekken. Juli bevat drie races kort achter elkaar, dus het wordt een belangrijke maand.

Fysiek was ik in Valencia nog niet top. Ik voelde de impact op mijn hoofd nog wel en je springt niet zomaar weer in de auto en alles is weer bij het oude, zo werkt het gewoon niet. Het kostte me tijd om me aan te passen, maar op het einde was het wel oké. Het was niet makkelijk voor me, maar ik deed mijn best en ik mag uiteindelijk tevreden zijn met een elfde plek. Ik weet zeker dat ik in Silverstone in een betere staat verkeer.

Ik vind Perez wel echt een talent. Vind hem vooral in potentie beter dan Kobayashi. Ik zie Perez nog wel WK worden in een Ferrari in de toekomst.
