Vleugelproblemen voor Verstappen? "Hebben probleem niet eerder gezien"

Tijdens de derde vrije training in Abu Dhabi had Max Verstappen weer problemen met zijn achtervleugel. Voor de tv-kijker was het duidelijk te zien dat de Red Bull-monteurs snel de vleugel aan het vervangen waren. De problemen leken niet al te groot want Verstappen was al snel weer op de baan te vinden.

Red Bull-teambaas Christian Horner werd gevraagd naar de problemen met de vleugel. Bij Sky Sports reageerde hij: "Het was een betrouwbaarheidsissue. Hierdoor waren we genoodzaakt de achtervleugel te vervangen. We monitoren het probleem, we hebben dit nog niet eerder gezien."

De achtervleugel is volgens Horner heel belangrijk om in de kwalificatie de concurrentiestrijd aan te kunnen gaan met Mercedes: "Ik denk dat we ze alleen concurrentie kunnen bieden als we een kleinere achtervleugel monteren. Dat is iets wat we het hele seizoen al zien. Het Honda-embleem op de achtervleugel is beduidend kleiner dan bij de concurrentie. Dat is onderdeel van een poging om onze snelheid op de rechte stukken te krijgen op banen die heel erg gevoelig zijn voor het vermogen."
