Heeft Sergio Perez de beslissende kaart in de titelstrijd in handen?

Vanmiddag schrijven Max Verstappen en Lewis Hamilton het laatste hoofdstuk van hun epische titelstrijd. Ze starten in Abu Dhabi gezamenlijk op de eerste startrij voor de laatste race van het seizoen. Hamilton weet dat rugdekking lastig gaat worden want zijn teamgenoot Valtteri Bottas start slechts als zesde. Verstappens teamgenoot Sergio Perez start als vierde.

Perez kan zomaar een belangrijke rol gaan spelen in de beslissing van de titelstrijd. Gisteren speelde hij al een bepalende factor in de pole position van Verstappen. Hij keek goed in zijn spiegels en gaf de Nederlander op precies het juiste moment een tow waardoor Verstappen door jakkerde richting pole.

Rode band

Vandaag kan Perez zich weer laten gelden. Bij een goede start kan hij zomaar vlak achter Hamilton en Verstappen terecht komen. Zijn team kan voor een andere strategie kiezen bij de Mexicaan. Perez start net als Verstappen op de rode band. Red Bull heeft veel data verzameld en ze weten dus precies hoelang ze Perez buiten kunnen houden. Hierdoor kan hij bijvoorbeeld Lewis Hamilton in de weg gaan rijden.

Turkije

Perez heeft eerder dit seizoen al bewezen een ware sta-in-de-weg te kunnen zijn. In Turkije verdedigde de Mexicaan op enorm sterke wijze tegen de jagende Hamilton. Hij liet zich niet zomaar aan de kant zetten en blufte Hamilton op overtuigende wijze af. Het kan zomaar zo zijn dat Perez dat vandaag laat zien.

Giswerk

De Mexicaan kan natuurlijk ook een topstart maken waardoor hij achter Verstappen en voor Hamilton terecht komt. Hierdoor kan hij de Brit ophouden en kan Verstappen een voorsprong opbouwen. Het blijft allemaal giswerk maar Perez heeft dankzij zijn prima kwalificatie misschien wel de beslissende kaart in handen.

  Henk Wijngaard. Hij maakt het soort muziek dat ik echt niet luister, maar als hij vroegah op de radio kwam dan zette ik toch niet iets anders op. En hem nu terughorend snap ik dat. Er zit iets ondeugend-vrolijks in zijn stem.

Met een goede start kan Checo het Lewis hopenlijk heel erg lastig maken in de openingsfase. En als RBR Checo na de eerste stint weer op Softs naar buiten stuurt, komen ze elkaar misschien nog wel een keer tegen. Alle beetjes helpen.

Er zijn meerdere scenario’s voor Perez denkbaar. Het is ook mogelijk dat hij Bottas vertraagt zodat deze na de pitstop van Max niet voor hem terechtkomt.
