Perez na heldendaad: "Dat was cruciaal vandaag"

Max Verstappen heeft de wereldtitel gepakt in Abu Dhabi. In de allerlaatste ronde verschalkte hij zijn rivaal Lewis Hamilton. Verstappens teamgenoot Sergio Perez speelde een enorm belangrijke rol in de die titel van zijn Nederlandse teamgenoot én wereldkampioen. Hij leverde af wat er van hem werd verwacht.

Perez bleef langer buiten dan zijn teamgenoot en daardoor kwam Lewis Hamilton na zijn stop achter de Mexicaan vast te zitten. De Brit wilde er vanzelfsprekend snel langs maar Perez deed wat hij moest doen. Hij verdedigde zeer fel en hield Hamilton precies lang genoeg op. Hij voerde een verwacht plan uit. 

Verschil

Na afloop verscheen de uitgevallen Perez voor de microfoons van het Nederlandse Ziggo Sport. Hij sprak zich uit: "Ik bevond mijzelf in een positie waar ik echt het verschil kon maken voor Max. Lewis had op dat moment de race redelijk onder controle. Hij had genoeg tijd voor mogelijke Virtual Safety Cars."

Cruciaal

Met zijn verdedigende kunsten speelde Perez een belangrijke rol in de titelstrijd. "Het was heel erg belangrijk maar ik reed al op oude banden. Ze waren echt helemaal op hun einde. Ik kreeg het voor elkaar om hem op te houden en hem secondes te laten verliezen. Dat was cruciaal vandaag. Ik ben blij voor Max en voor het team."

Ik denk dat de titel van beste teamgenoot ooit niet meer Bottas toebehoort. Perez heeft vandaag die titel geclaimed. En op wat voor manier. Dat was echt een enorm sterk staaltje racen.

    Geweldig gedaan van Checco.
    Heeft een wisselvallig seizoen gekend maar Godallemachtig wat deed ie dat vandaag geweldig.

      Perez heeft dit seizoen hele belangrijke punten weggesnoept bij Hamilton, Baku waar Hamilton een fout maakt maar rijdt daar geen Perez had Hamilton die fout nooit gemaakt. Monaco waar die de overcut perfect uitvoerde op Lewis. Turkije niet te vergeten. Nee Perez heeft mindere weekenden gekend maar was zeker een toevoeging voor RB en Max dit jaar.

      Problemen met zijn oliedruk, aldus Marko, die het jammer vond dat daarmee de constructeurstitel weggegooid werd, maar zegt dat ze geen andere keuze hadden.

      begreep dat ze bang waren voor een nieuwe safety situatie dan door Perez veroorzaakt, vandaar naar binnen. wat de echte reden van zijn malleur (misschien oliedruk las ik ) weet ik zelf niet

    Ik weet niet zo goed wat ik moet vinden van het opzettelijk ophouden in sector 3, maar vandaag maakt ik me niet eens meer uit dat ik een beetje bevooroordeeld ben. Bedankt Checo, deze wereldtitel is ook een beetje voor jou.

      Het was gewoon racen om positie 1, waanzinnig knap op versleten sloffen Lewis zo op te houden. Checo was essentieel vandaag. Over een heel seizoen miss nog wat grillig, maar op moment supreme deed hij een superjob, terwijl bottas nergens was

    Het was geweldig om te zien en heb er van genoten. Maar cruciaal was het niet, want daarna reed Hamilton gewoon weer weg bij Verstappen. Cruciaal was de crash van Latifi en de beslissing van Masi. Maar toont wederom waar het om te doen was al sinds de voorlaatste race. Want het draaide allemaal om de sensatie, anders had Hamilton afgelopen race die straf gekregen.

      Klopt, perez zijn actie was heel vermakelijk en goed voor de teamspirit, maar heeft geen enkele invloed op de uitslag gehad. Misschien even een fruitmandje naar Latifi sturen?
