Heikki Kovalainen ook in 2012 waarschijnlijk bij Team Lotus

Heikki Kovalainen zal waarschijnlijk ook volgend seizoen bij Team Lotus racen, dat vertelde teambaas Tony Fernandes vandaag. De Finse coureur, die bezig is aan zijn tweede jaar met het team, kent een goed seizoen en is teamgenoot Jarno Trulli vaak de baas.

Volgens Fernandes is het nog te vroeg om over de line-up van 2012 te praten, maar vertelde wel tegenover de Finse krant Turun Sanomat: "Het is erg waarschijnlijk dat we Heikki Kovalainen een nieuw contract aanbieden. Heikki is een constante coureur en weet altijd 100 procent uit de auto te halen. Hij geeft veel energie aan het team."

Verder werd aan Fernandes nog gevraagd of Kovalainen bij Team Lotus net zo populair is als Fernando Alonso bij Ferrari. "Jazeker, al weet ik niet precies hoe populair Fernando bij Ferrari is", lachtte Fernandes. "Heikki is een goede vriend geworden. Als hij tevreden is met zijn positie binnen ons team, zie ik geen enkele reden om niet met hem verder te gaan."
