FIA ontvangt veel meer boetegeld in 2021 dan in jaar ervoor

De stewards en wedstrijdleider Michael Masi waren na de laatste Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi wel toe aan vakantie. Bijna elk weekend speelde ze een hoofdrol en moesten ze fel bekritiseerde beslissingen maken. Maar nu blijkt dat het eigenlijk best wel mee viel, de cijfers zijn vergelijkbaar met een jaar eerder.

Bijna elk weekend ging het wel over discutabele beslissingen van de wedstrijdleiding of de stewards. Het spannende titelduel tussen Max Verstappen en Lewis Hamilton werd soms zwaar beïnvloed door de beslissingen van de stewards. Zo kreeg Verstappen een forse boete in Brazilië en mocht hij in Saoedi-Arabië twee tijdstraffen bijschrijven.

Straffen

Volgens Auto, Motor und Sport werd er in 2021 96 keer ingegrepen. Dat is ongeveer hetzelfde als een jaartje eerder. Slechts bij één race werden er geen straffen uitgedeeld. De heren coureurs gedroegen zich namelijk voorbeeldig in Austin. De grootste penaltypakker van het jaar was Kimi Räikkönen, de Finse routinier kreeg elf keer op zijn kop. Verstappen kreeg slechts vier keer een straf, zijn teamgenoot Sergio Perez maakte het een stuk bonter en kreeg negen keer een straf.

Boetes

De straffen bleven dan wel gelijk in 2021, bij de boetes was het een ander verhaal. De FIA kon in 2021 113.400 euro beschrijven aan strafgelden. Dat is bijna het dubbele vergeleken met een jaar eerder. Max Verstappen droeg daar met zijn boete van 50.000 euro overduidelijk aan bij.
