Daniel Ricciardo kwalificeert zich voor eerste race in Silverstone

Daniel Ricciardo zal morgen van start gaan in zijn allereerste Formule 1-Grand Prix. De Australiër, die vanaf de race in Silverstone Narain Karthikeyan vervangt bij Hispania Racing, kwam een halve seconde tekort op teamgenoot Vitantonio Liuzzi en kwalificeerde zich als 24e.

Na afloop vertelde Ricciardo tegen de BBC: "Het was een interessante sessie, vooral met het weer. Daardoor was het wel iets moeilijker en heb ik maar één run met de zachte band kunnen rijden. Ik heb niet alles eruit kunnen halen, maar ik kan in dit stadium ook niet al te veel verwachten."

Over zijn toekomst in de Formule 1 vertelde de Australiër: "Ik ben gelukkig met deze kans en ik kan vroeger in de Formule 1 racen dan ik had verwacht. Het is fijn dat Red Bull en HRT tot een overeenkomst zijn gekomen en dat ik de laatste tien races van het seizoen kan rijden. Ik kan nu veel ervaring opdoen, dingen leren en ik heb daardoor geluk met Tonio als mijn teamgenoot. Het is een snelle rijder en ik kan veel van hem leren dit jaar."
