Steiner prijst zijn werknemers: "Ze lieten nooit hun hoofd hangen"

Het team van Haas is waarschijnlijk blij dat het jaar erop zit. De Amerikaanse renstal beleefde een miserabel 2021 en scoorde geen enkel puntje. Ze eindigden dan ook als allerlaatste in het constructeurskampioenschap en dat deed flink wat pijn. Ze kijken dan ook reikhalzend uit naar het aankomende seizoen.

Dat 2021 geen succesjaar zou worden voor Haas stond al in de sterren geschreven. Toch begon het team vol goede moed aan het seizoen. Maar debutanten Mick Schumacher en Nikita Mazepin kenden een harde leerweg. Regelmatig reden ze fikse schade en vochten ze vooral met elkaar. Ondanks de vele reparaties hield met bij Haas vertrouwen.

Complimenten

Teambaas Günther Steiner is dan ook heel erg trots op zijn manschappen. De Italiaan prijst ze de hemel in. In gesprek met Motorsport.com strooit hij met complimenten: "Ik ben nogal onder de indruk van hoe de jongens bleven doorwerken. Nooit lieten ze hun hoofd hangen. We wisten op welke plek we zouden eindigen maar we bleven hard doorvechten. Als we bijvoorbeeld een tiende langzamer waren probeerde we daar een halve tiende van te maken. Alles is puur aan hen te danken."

Zestig procent

Steiner ziet dan zijn trouwe werknemers het vertrouwen nooit verloren. Zijn stroom aan complimenten gaat dan ook onverminderd hard door. Hij is een trots man: "Ze weten wat we in ons hebben dus ze bleven vechten. Van alle mensen die hier werken, werkt er al zestig procent vanaf het begin hier. Iedereen is erop gebrand om weer voor de punten te vechten en om weer mee te doen in het middenveld."

De meeste windtunneltijd en het hele jaar al kunnen ontwikkelen aan de nieuwe auto. Ik verwacht toch dat ze volgend jaar minimaal aansluiting vinden bij het middenveld.
