Voor McLaren was 2021 een succesvol seizoen in zowel Formule 1 en IndyCar.

Dubbelzege

In de koningsklasse scoorde het iconische team uit Woking de eerste dubbelzege sinds 2010 op het circuit van Monza. Daarnaast scoorde de renstal ook nog drie podia, waaronder één in de straten van Monaco. Het team was lang in gevecht met Ferrari om de derde plek in het constructeurskampioenschap, maar moest uiteindelijk de Scuderia voor zich dulden.

IndyCar

Overzees was McLaren ook actief in de IndyCar, de Amerikaanse tegenhanger van de Formule 1. De renstal behaalde twee overwinningen en drie podia. Pato O'Ward deed lang mee om de rijderstitel en eindigde als derde in de rangschikking. In de Indy500 greep het team net naast het podium.

Toekomst

De kans is groot dat het niet blij blijft bij Formule 1 en IndyCar. De renstal heeft ook interesse in deelname aan het WEC en de Formule E. McLaren kopstuk Zak Brown meldde jl. dat een beslissing hierover niet lang meer op zich laat wachten.
