Perez op zijn plek bij Red Bull: "Ik ken nu alle medewerkers!"

Sergio Perez had een belangrijk aandeel in de eerste wereldtitel van Max Verstappen. De Mexicaan hielp zijn Red Bull-teamgenoot door diens rivaal Lewis Hamilton stevig op te houden tijdens de seizoensfinale in Abu Dhabi. Het was een mooi einde voor een het nogal hobbelige eerste Red Bull-jaar van de Mexicaan.

Inmiddels kan hij zich in alle rust voorbereiden op zijn tweede jaar in Oostenrijkse dienst. Perez kreeg immers al vrij vroeg in het seizoen contractverlening. Voor Perez is er inmiddels veel veranderd in vergelijking met een jaar eerder. De tweevoudig racewinnaar heeft zijn plek gevonden bij het team. Zijn prestaties in de slotfase van het afgelopen seizoen bevestigden dat feit.

Goede basis

Voor het aankomende jaar is het vertrouwen van Perez dan ook huizenhoog. In gesprek met Speedweek blikt hij vooruit: "We hebben al een goede basis waarop we kunnen bouwen. Dat is het grote verschil met vorig jaar. Ik ken nu alle medewerkers van het team en ik weet nu wie ik wat moet vragen. Ik weet nu hoe ik het beste uit iedereen kan krijgen. Het is een totaal andere situatie."

Nieuw niveau

De voorbereidingen voor het aankomende seizoen zijn inmiddels ook in volle gang. Het is Perez inmiddels opgevallen dat men bij Red Bull stevig doorwerkt: "De engineers, de monteurs en de teambazen moeten ook alles geven. Iedereen werkt onvermoeibaar hard om het perfecte resultaat te bereiken. Het is tot nu toe een fantastische ervaring die mij als coureur naar een nieuw niveau heeft geduwd."

Die Perez.... Hij kent vast het spreekwoord niet "een zwaluw maakt nog geen zomer". Gaan beleven hoever hij aankomend seizoen achter Max bungelt.

Ik ben benieuwd hoe Ricciardo en Perez het gaan doen komend jaar. Met de nieuwe auto's is wennen geen excuus meer. Hoop dat ze beter mee kunnen komen als afgelopen jaar.
