Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi in top vijf best bekeken sportprogramma's

De afsluiting van het Formule 1-seizoen 2021 in Abu Dhabi trok bijna 5 miljoen kijkers en daarmee behoort het tot de vijf best bekeken sportprogramma's van vorig jaar. Dat blijkt uit het jaaroverzicht van Stichting KijkOnderzoek, gepubliceerd door SportNext.nl. De Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi vormde het zinderende sluitstuk van een spannend seizoen.

Het zal weinigen ontgaan zijn dat Red Bull Racing-coureur Max Verstappen uiteindelijk op sensationele wijze met zijn eerste titel aan de haal ging. De Nederlander passeerde zijn Mercedes-concurrent Lewis Hamilton in de laatste ronde van de race op Yas Marina Circuit. Hij had daar wel het geluk van een gunstige safety car-periode en de juiste gok voor een extra pitstop voor verse banden voor nodig.

Betaalkanaal Ziggo Sport had het kanaal dat weekend voor iedereen opengesteld, zodat niemand de ontknoping van het Formule 1-seizoen hoefde te missen. Het was gelijk ook de voorlopig laatste Grand Prix die Ziggo live uitzond, aangezien de rechten vanaf dit jaar in handen zijn van Viaplay. De zender trok die zondag in december 4.953.000 kijkers.

Daarmee bezet de Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi de vijfde plaats in de ranglijst van best bekeken sportprogramma's. Voetbal domineert verder de top tien. Het EK voetbal en de WK-kwalificatiewedstrijden van het Nederlands voetbal verdelen de overige plekken.

Niet zo gek natuurlijk, omdat die race de beslissende was voor het kampioenschap..... Als het een race eerder was beslist hadden er misschien nog geen miljoen naar gekeken.....
