Verstappen en co trekken mega-publiek naar virtuele 24 uur van Le Mans

Anderhalve week geleden werd de virtuele editie van de 24 uur van Le Mans verreden. De virtuele wedstrijd kreeg veel aandacht, mede door de zeer sterke startlijst. Er deden namelijk zeer veel sterke coureurs mee die normaliter op de echte circuits te vinden zijn. het was een enorm succes.

Regerend Formule 1-wereldkampioen Max Verstappen was één van de deelnemers. De Nederlander streed mee om de overwinning maar viel vroegtijdig uit. Ook voormalig Formule 1-coureur Juan Pablo Montoya en Indycar-kampioen Alex Palou verschenen aan de digitale start. Naast dit trio verschenen en nog veel bekende e-sporters en andere beroepscoureurs aan de start van de race.

De wedstrijd was wereldwijd te zien op televisie en vooral internet. Op YouTube en streamingsplatform Twitch was de race vanuit veel verschillende perspectieven te volgen. Het heeft de organisatie geen windeieren gelegd want wereldwijd keken er meer dan 81 miljoen mensen naar de virtuele endurance-klassieker.
