Binotto gaat Räikkönen missen: "Een van de weinigen die ik als vriend beschouw"

Kimi Räikkönen zei de Formule 1 in december vaarwel. De populaire Fin hing zijn helm aan de wilgen en kan terugkijken op een succesvolle carrière. Toch zal men hem missen, veel prominenten spreken zich positief uit over Räikkönen. Vooral vanuit de Ferrari-kringen krijgt hij louter positief reacties.

Räikkönen reed twee periodes voor de Italiaanse renstal. In 2007 reed hij voor het eerst in het scharlaken rood, het was een succes en hij werd meteen wereldkampioen. Hij reed tot 2009 voor de ploeg om daarna in 2014 terug te keren bij het team. In 2019 reed hij voor het laatst in dienst van Ferrari.

Fantastische gozer

In die tijd heeft hij veel vrienden gemaakt bij het team. Ook huidig Ferrari-teambaas Mattia Binotto kon het goed vinden met de Fin. In gesprek met Speedweek is Binotto enorm lovend: "Ik ken Kimi al heel erg lang, ik denk meer dan 14 jaar. Hij was altijd een fantastische en snelle coureur. Ik denk dat hij vandaag de dag nog steeds heel erg snel is. Daarnaast is hij ook nog eens een fantastische gozer."

Vriend

Binotto's band met Räikkönen was speciaal. De teambaas kon altijd rekenen op de Fin en zag hem als meer dan zomaar een coureur. Hij spreekt zich uit: "Hij is één van de weinigen in de paddock die ik als een vriend beschouw omdat je Kimi altijd kon vertrouwen. Hij is erg respectvol, zelfs als hij niet veel zegt. Maar dit gedrag laat zien dat hij een fantastisch persoon is. Daarom gaat de hele paddock hem missen. Niet alleen omdat hij een geweldige coureur is, maar ook omdat hij een geweldige gast is."
