Jos Verstappen maakt eind deze maand langverwachte comeback

Max Verstappen liet vorig jaar heel Nederland juichen met zijn wereldtitel in de Formule 1. De successen van de Limburger zijn niet vreemd, hij komt uit een echte racefamilie en het snelheidsvirus is hem met de paplepel ingegoten. Zijn vader Jos Verstappen reed ook in de Formule 1 en kent het wereldje dan ook door en door.

Verstappen senior trad de afgelopen jaren vooral op als mentor en schaduw van zijn succesvolle zoon. Toch kruipt het bloed waar het niet gaan kan en Jos Verstappen wilde terugkeren in de autosport. Het was de bedoeling dat hij aan de start zou staan van een rally in Assen maar de pandemie gooide roet in het eten. Daarnaast zou hij ook deelnemen aan de 24 uur van Dubai maar ook daar moest een streep door.

Haspengouw

Aan het eind van deze maand maakt Jos Verstappen dan toch zijn comeback in de racewereld. De voormalig Formule 1-coureur verschijnt op 26 februari aan de start van de Rally van Haspengouw, de eerste ronde van het Belgian Rally Championship. Verstappen bestuurt een Citroën C3 R5 die wordt geprepareerd door het team van DG Sport Competition. Naast Verstappen neemt de Belgische navigator Kris Botson plaats in de snelle Citroën.

Avontuur

Jos Verstappen is in zijn sas met het nieuwe hoofdstuk van zijn lange raceloopbaan. Op de site van de Verstappens spreekt hij zich uit: "Ik heb er erg veel zin in en ik heb ook gemerkt dat ik rallyrijden heel erg leuk vind. Dat komt doordat het heel onvoorspelbaar is. Natuurlijk ben ik gedreven en ik heb de ondersteuning van een topteam maar ik zal samen met mijn navigator op zoek moeten naar mijn limieten. De rede dat ik in dit avontuur stap is dat het mij plezier brengt."

overigens heb je wel grindpaden in het rallyrijden, maar dat terzijde...

  Inhoudelijk voegt die spartelende vis met z'n knipogende smiley's hier helemaal niks toe. Wel geniet ik van het feit hoe hij de Verstappens, Red Bull en alles wat er aan oranje fans aan kleeft niet uit kan staan. Dan heb je in dit tijdperk toch echt wel een k*tleven.
