Verstappen dankt vader Jos: "Brengt je niet direct naar de top"

Max Verstappen heerst momenteel in de Formule 1. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur gaat dit jaar zijn wereldtitel verdedigen en iedereen gaat er vanuit dat hij weer zal gaan winnen. Verstappen is vooral zijn vader Jos dankbaar en hij deelt nogmaals zijn complimenten uit.

Verstappen werd vorig jaar voor het derde seizoen op rij wereldkampioen in de Formule 1. Hij verbrak in het afgelopen seizoen een enorm aantal records. Hij won negentien Grands Prix en dat zorgde ervoor dat hij het hoogste winstpercentage is een enkel seizoen pakte. Verstappen wordt gezien als een coureur die nog heel erg veel records gaan breken, maar daar blijft hij zelf enorm nuchter onder.

Verstappen dankt liever de mensen die hem hebben geholpen in zijn weg naar succes. Hij wijst daarvoor vooral naar zijn vader Jos Verstappen. In een interview met The Times dankt hij zijn vader: "Ik denk dat je dit soort natuurlijke vaardigheden en dit soort talent zeker nodig hebt in de racerij. Maar natuurlijk brengt dat je niet direct naar de top. Ik heb vanzelfsprekend ook veel te danken aan mijn vader. Toen ik opgroeide, wilde ik niet per se doen wat mijn vader deed. Ik groeide gewoon op in een omgeving waar ik door mijn vader altijd op een circuit was."
