Verstappen dankt fans en media na Laureus nominatie: "Geweldig na zo'n intens seizoen"

Max Verstappen kende afgelopen seizoen een enorm succesvol jaar. De Nederlandse Red Bull-coureur leverde een ongekende titelstrijd met zijn rivaal Lewis Hamilton. Verstappen kwam als winnaar uit de bus en pakte zijn eerste wereldtitel uit zijn loopbaan. Met zijn successen oogstte hij veel lof uit binnen én buitenland.

Hij werd dan ook meermaals genomineerd voor enkele grote sportprijzen. In Nederland versloeg hij enkele succesvolle Olympiërs en werd hij verkozen tot sportman van het jaar. Ook internationaal viel zijn succes op, gisteren werd namelijk bekend dat Verstappen ook genomineerd is voor een prestigieuze Laureus Award. Ook bij de Oscars van de sportwereld maakt de Nederlander kans op de titel sportman van het jaar.

Media

Verstappen kan met zijn nominatie in de voetsporen treden van onder andere Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel en Lewis Hamilton. De Limburger reageert op zijn eigen site verheugd op zijn nominatie: "Ten eerste wil ik de media bedanken voor de nominatie van de Laureus Sportman van het Jaar award. Het is geweldig dat ik na zo'n intens seizoen genomineerd wordt voor zo'n prijs. De meeste dank gaat echter uit naar mijn team Red Bull Racing en motorleverancier Honda, zij hebben mij een winnende auto gegeven."

Orange Army

De Nederlander eindigde in bijna elke Grand Prix van 2021 op het podium. Hij werd dan ook op veel circuits hartstochtelijk toegejuicht door zeer veel fans. Ook de fans kunnen op een bedankje rekenen: "Ik wil ook alle fans die mij hebben gesteund enorm bedanken. Het was geweldig om het Orange Army over de hele wereld te zien."

    Als Max deze prijs wint dan geeft dat nog meer glans aan zijn titel en dat al naast zijn glansrijke carrière.

      Denk dat de prijs eerder naar (American Football-speler) Tom Brady gaat
      voor zijn hele carrière, omdat hij aan heeft gegeven te stoppen.
      Die man is natuurlijk super goed.

      Klopt wel en ik denk dat je gelijk hebt. Alleen een beetje raar, omdat het een lokale sport betreft. Je verwacht ook geen korfballer
      of jai halaier bij de genomineerden

      @pietjebell hij is idd heel goed en ik denk dat je gelijkt hebt.

      Maar ergens wel raar, aangezien het een lokale sport betreft; je verwacht ook geen korfballer of jai alaier bij de genomineerden.

      Alles behalve een lokale sport.

      Wereldwijd wordt dut enorm bekeken.

      Superbowl is het grootste eendaagse sportevenement ter wereld.
      Dit jaar zijn er overigens ook NFL wedstrijden in Londen gespeeld

      @ctra zeker lokale sport. Dat het ergens anders op kleine schaal bedreven wordt, maakt het niet direct globaal.(in nederland wordt ook jai alai gespeeld).

      Ik zou er hetzelfde in staan als sven kramer genomineerd zou worden. Wordt ook wereldwijd beoefend en gekeken, maar in mijn ogen niet globaal genoeg voor zo'n internationale award.

      In Nederland zijn nog nooit NFL wedstrijden gespeeld op de europese tak van de NFL na.

      Maar een sport die mondiaal zoveel bekeken wordt kan je niet lokaal noemen.

      American football is voor mij meer een bordspel met levende stukken.

      Maar ik ben natuurlijk niet de norm. Dat gezegd hebbende. Zelfs ik ken Brady van naam. Kan me bijvoorbeeld geen schaatser bedenken die naar de olymische spelen gaat. En ik ken al helemaal geen jai alai beoefenaars. Mogelijk zegt dat meer over mij.

      Maar als Verstappen het een eer vindt tussen die 5 anderen genomineerd te worden, wie ben ik dan om er wat van te vinden.
