Alonso oneens met Abu Dhabi-controverse: "Heb een andere mening"

Vandaag zijn de heren coureurs weer aan het werk gegaan. Men komt in actie tijdens de eerste testweek van het jaar op het circuit van Barcelona. In het hokje van de wedstrijdleiding bevinden zich nieuwe gezichten. Vorige week maakte autosportfederatie FIA bekend dat Michael Masi een functie elders krijgt en dat hij afwisselend wordt vervangen door Eduardo Freitas en Niels Wittich.

Naast de komst van Freitas en Wittich worden er nog enkele andere dingen aangepast. Zo introduceert men een soort VAR-systeem zoals ook al in het voetbal van kracht is. Daarnaast heeft men gezocht naar een ervaren adviseur voor de wedstrijdleiding. De FIA heeft ervaren rot Herbie Blash teruggehaald uit zijn pensioen en hij zal de wedstrijdleiding gaan adviseren.

Andere mening

Met het nieuws van de FIA kwam er een einde aan de lage soap die de Formule 1 sinds Abu Dhabi in zijn greep hield. Toch kunnen sommigen het niet laten om toch nog hun mening te delen. Ook Alpine-coureur Fernando Alonso wil zich op de valreep even uitspreken. Tegenover Racer is hij duidelijk: "Ik heb nogal een andere mening over Abu Dhabi. Ik denk namelijk dat er helemaal niets fouts gebeurde. Ik denk niet dat de wijzigingen daardoor zijn doorgevoerd, ik mag hopen van niet."

Ben Sulayem

De man achter de hervormingen van de wedstrijdleiding is nieuwbakken FIA-president Mohammed Ben Sulayem. Hij kon bij zijn aantreden direct aan de bak en hij heeft zijn zaakjes zeer serieus aangepakt. Alonso is blij met deze maatregelen: "Hij is een nieuwe president. Hij wil er dus vanzelfsprekend voor zorgen dat alles er goed uit ziet. Persoonlijk mag ik Mohammed en zijn aanpak wel."

Belachelijk dat de FIA niet als eerste naar de visie van de nestor van de F1 hebben geïnformeerd.
Vooral vanwege het standpunt dat Alonso in dezen inneemt...

  Vandaar dat ik ook aangaf dat ik niet van deze reactie opkijk. Aan alles wat Alonso doet wanneer het op Lewis aankomt, kun je duidelijk merken dat de beste man een enorme afkeer aan Lewis heeft. Dan is het niet zo raar dat hij in deze de kant van Masi/ Red Bull kiest. En dat voor iemand die niet zo lang terug klaagde dat de regels niet goed worden nageleefd.
