Coulthard vindt Verstappen één van de beste ooit: "Opvallend volwassen"

Max Verstappen verschijnt dit seizoen aan de start in een compleet nieuwe rol. De Nederlandse Red Bull-coureur is immers niet langer de uitdager, hij is dit jaar de man waar alle ogen op gericht zijn. Verstappen is immers de regerend wereldkampioen en hij zal er dus alles aan gaan doen om zijn wereldtitel te gaan verdedigen.

Al zijn gehele Formule 1-loopbaan rijdt Verstappen rond terwijl alle ogen op hem gericht zijn. Hij debuteerde in 2015 op zeer jonge leeftijd in de koningsklasse van de autosport. Daarna ging zijn carrière als een komeet en groeide hij uit tot één van de supersterren van de sport. De wereldtitel van vorig jaar was tot nu toe het hoogtepunt.

Beste

Verstappen kan dan ook op zeer veel lof rekenen. Sommigen vinden hem zelfs één van de beste coureurs ooit. David Coulthard krijgt de vraag voorgeschoteld in het Viaplay-programma F1 Talks. De Schot ziet Verstappen al als een van de beste ooit: "Hij is dat al, echt waar. Persoonlijk voelde ik mij pas volwassen toen ik eind twintig was en ik vond dat ik pas begin dertig echt op mijn top was. Dat betekent dus dat er bij Max waarschijnlijk nog meer aan zit te komen."

Premier League

 De Nederlander is nog altijd maar 24 jaar oud en heeft er nu al een redelijk lange loopbaan opzitten. Coulthard denkt dat dit bijdraagt aan zijn klasse: "Hij is opvallend volwassen voor zijn nog zeer jonge leeftijd. We moeten niet vergeten dat hij nog maar zeventien was toen hij debuteerde en dat hij op zijn achttiende zijn eerste Grand Prix won. Het feit dat hij daar in Barcelona gelijk die kans pakte en zegevierde maakt hem echt exceptioneel. Elke Formule 1-coureur is goed, dat is hetzelfde bij alle Premier League-voetballers. Het gaat er echter om, om de jongens te vinden die exceptioneel zijn."

Hoewel ik geen fan ben van Max of Red Bull vind ik Max ook de beste coureur (op zijn minst van dit moment). De beste coureur ooit is lastig, andere tijden enzo. Maar ik denk dat er wereldwijd geen coureur is die Max kan verslaan in gelijkwaardig materiaal, dus laat het dominante materiaal maar sn... [Lees verder]

      Was al in 2015, z'n debuutjaar, te zien dat Max een zeer bijzonder talent was.. Na Barcelona 2016 werd dat gevoel alleen nog maar sterker.. 1e weekend in een nieuwe auto bij een nieuw team, amper voorbereiding, en dan gewoon even je 1e GP winnen.. Dat was/is echt niet normaal hoor.. Ook in z'n karttijd was Max erg bijzonder, zoveel hij gewonnen heeft.. Daarna slechts 1 jaar F3 waarin hij ook nog bijna kampioen werd in een mindere auto.. Dat allemaal los van extra enthousiasme dat het om een Nederlander gaat.. Ik volg F1 al sinds midden jaren 80..

    Hoewel ik geen fan ben van Max of Red Bull vind ik Max ook de beste coureur (op zijn minst van dit moment). De beste coureur ooit is lastig, andere tijden enzo. Maar ik denk dat er wereldwijd geen coureur is die Max kan verslaan in gelijkwaardig materiaal, dus laat het dominante materiaal maar snel arriveren in de garagebox van McLaren.

      Eh, ja... Mr Marly presenteert dit toch niet als een vaststaand feit? En hij claimt ook niet dat hij namens iemand anders spreekt, dus beetje rare opmerking.

      Eens Mr Marly, hoewel ik dan wel fan van Verstappen ben. (niet van het team.)

      Verstappen vind ik de laatste twee jaar de beste. Hoewel Hamilton het in 2020 niet hoefde te laten zien. Die werd daar kampioen met 2 vingers in de neus.

      Maar jaar in jaar uit gemotiveerd en gedreven blijven ondanks kampioenschappen heeft Verstappen nog niet laten zien. Daarom vind ik voorlopig Hamilton de aller beste van de afgelopen 15 jaar. Rijders uit verschillende tijden vergelijken vind ik erg moeilijk en waag ik me niet aan.

      Inderdaad. Coulthard ontwijkt doorgaans vragen of Hamilton de beste is ooit en geeft vaak statements dat dat alleen is omdat hij niemand als een Schumacher in de competitie heeft. Heb soms het idee dat hij in ieder geval geen fan van Hamilton is en graag elke gelegenheid aangrijpt om het tegenovergestelde te bewijzen.
