Capito steunt mogelijke komst Andretti: "Zeker een goede aanvulling voor F1"

Momenteel zijn er tien teams actief in de Formule 1. De interesse in de koningsklasse van de autosport is echter zeer groot en steeds vaker kloppen er geïnteresseerden op de deur. Regelmatig staan er luchtfietsers op de stoep maar de laatste tijd is de interesse steeds serieuzer geworden. Toch reageren veel huidige teams terughoudend.

Michael Andretti wil nu immers de Formule 1 betreden met zijn eigen team. De Amerikaan uit de legendarische autosportfamilie probeerde eerder al Sauber over te kopen maar dat plan mislukte op het nippertje. Nu wil Andretti de sport per 2024 betreden met een eigen team. Hij heeft al een verzoek ingediend bij de FIA en hij wil de entry fee van 200 miljoen dollar maar wat graag betalen.

Volkswagen

Veel teams reageren echter niet geheel positief op de mogelijke komst van Andretti. Bij Williams zijn ze juist wel overwegend positief. Teambaas Jost Capito sprak zich uit tegenover de internationale media: "Ik heb met Volkswagen samengewerkt met Michael in Amerika. Ze runden daar het rallycross team voor Volkswagen. Dus ik heb close met hem samengewerkt. Ik heb respect voor ze. Hij heeft goede mensen en hij zou zeker weten een goede aanvulling zijn voor de Formule 1."

Limiet

Capito zou het zelfs goed vinden als er meer teams bij komen in de koningsklasse van de autosport. Hij wil echter niet verder groeien dan het maximale aantal van 12 teams: "Het verleden heeft bewezen dat 24 auto's een goed aantal is en de Formule 1 kan het aan. Ik denk dat als je veel auto's hebt ,tot de limiet en die staat op 24, dat het beter is voor de sport."

Ik steun praktisch ieder team dat erbij komt op de grid, om de simpele reden dat 10 teams veel te weinig is. Het al zo een beetje de grens, en dat te bedenken dat je grid wel erg summier wordt wanneer er bijvoorbeeld een team failliet gaat. Idealiter zie ik gewoon 24 of 26 auto's op de grid. En m... Ik steun praktisch ieder team dat erbij komt op de grid, om de simpele reden dat 10 teams veel te weinig is. Het al zo een beetje de grens, en dat te bedenken dat je grid wel erg summier wordt wanneer er bijvoorbeeld een team failliet gaat. Idealiter zie ik gewoon 24 of 26 auto's op de grid. En meer auto's betekent ook dat talenten makkelijker en sneller de F1 in kunnen stromen. 26 auto's zou dan wel mijn limiet zijn.

  Zoals vroeger (zo oud ben ik trouwens niet, vind ik dan hè), konden er maximaal 26 auto's aan de start staan maar er waren er meer. De langzaamsten van de kwalificatie vielen die wedstrijd af. Vond ik prima eigenlijk.

  Er waren vroeger zelfs voorkwalificaties.
  Dat had zeker z’n charme, maar omdat terug te krijgen moet de F1 financieel en logistiek zo’n bocht maken…
  Dat zie ik never nooit meer gebeuren.
  
  Maar 28 auto’s waarvan de langzaamste twee na de kwalificatie afvallen zou m.i. wel welkom zijn, dat geeft de strijd aan de ‘onderkant’ alleen maar een extra dimensie…

  Pre-kwalificatie.... ten tijde dat je nog een team als Life had met een W12 (het is geen typfout) motor. Wat kwamen ze ook alweer tekort? 80 km/ph op het rechte stuk ofzo? En langzamer dan 4 rondjes hield die motor het ook niet vol. Tja... ook die verhalen hebben hun charmes.
  
  Of Andrea Moda... het team dat volgens mij één keer door de pre-kwalificatie wist te komen. De andere keren lukt het niet... en niet alleen dat, ze saboteerden de wagen van de 2e coureur opzettelijk. Deze werd volgens mij in droge condities doodleuk de baan opgestuurd met full-wets. Nee mensen, het is geen complot ;).

  Veld mag inderdaad wel naar minstens 24 wagens als dat gehaald is kan je daarna naar toegevoegde waarde kijken.
  Andretti is een echt raceteam net als Williams, Mclaren en Ferrari beter dan Mercedes die als de resultaten tegenvallen zomaar weer kunnen uitstappen.

Toto is erop tegen volgens mij, geen idee eigenlijk waarom hij erop tegen is dat Andretti zou komen.

  Verhaal van Mario Andretti is dat Toto bang is dat men alsnog Ferrari motoren erin slingerd en daarmee Ferrari evenveel of meer stemmen heeft in de toekomst. Er is op you.tube een mooi interview met een indycar kanaal DavidL.and hierover.
