Ricciardo weer terug na coronabesmetting: "Voel mij een stuk fitter"

Daniel Ricciardo kende een lastig voorbereiding op de seizoenstart van aankomend weekend. De Australische McLaren-coureur testte tijdens de testweek positief op het coronavirus. Door zijn positieve test moest hij de gehele wintertest in Bahrein laten schieten en men vreesde kortstondig voor de eerste Grand Prix van het jaar.

Er werd al stevig gespeculeerd over mogelijke vervangers van Ricciardo. De namen van Nyck de Vries, Stoffel Vandoorne en Oscar Piastri gingen veelvuldig rond. De speculatie was echter voor niets want Ricciardo kon deze week uit isolatie omdat hij klachten vrij is en een negatieve coronatest kon laten zien. De Australiër mag zich dus weer in de paddock melden om aan het seizoen te beginnen.

Fitter

Tijdens zijn zelfisolatie stond Ricciardo veelvuldig in contact met zijn werkgever en teammaatje Lando Norris. Hij is dan ook helemaal ready voor de seizoenstart. Hij wordt geciteerd door Motorsport.com: "Ik voel mij echt een stuk fitter en ik ben dat ook klaar voor de Grand Prix van Bahrein en het verdere seizoen. Het was balen dat ik niet kon testen maar ondanks dat ik mij niet lekker voelde heb ik contact gehouden met het team. Ook heb ik met Lando gesproken over de auto zodat ik zo goed mogelijk voorbereid ben voor het aankomende weekend."

Ricciardo gaat zijn tweede jaar in als McLaren-coureur en hij kijkt reikhalzend uit naar het seizoen. Hij voelt zich steeds meer op zijn plek: "We hebben geleerd van alle hoogte- en dieptepunten en we gaan er het beste van maken. Ik ben niet onbekend met de introductie van een nieuwe generatie auto's. Ik kijk er naar uit, ik kijk vooral uit naar de gevechten op de baan. In Bahrein al helemaal met alle inhaalmogelijkheden."

  Nergens voor nodig. iedereen gaat het toch wel meerdere keren krijgen. ik heb het ook al 2 keer gehad ondanks 2 vaccinaties. ik kon alleen 3 dagen niks ruiken en proeven. en alle mensen die ik kan van mijn leeftijd hadden ongeveer hetzelfde. een klein beetje moeier misschien. maar ik heb wel eens de ´normale´ griep gehad en dat voelde een stuk slechter hoor.

  Inderdaad Royalere. Ik ben niet gevaccineerd maar heb ook in verleden een paar keer griep gehad wat veel zwaarder was dan dit. Nu was het inderdaad een paar dagen niks kunnen ruiken een beetje hoofdpijn(bij beide eerste 2 varianten) maar verder niet zo zwaar als dat griepje van +/- 5 jaar geleden.

nu Seb ook besmet , F1 zou er goed aan doen om de andere rijders te beschermen en Dani Ric en Seb verplichten minstens 2 weken weg te blijven .

vond zelf de maatregelen ook niet echt leuk , Maar gezond verstand zegt me bij een besmetting wel wat strenger te zijn voor de coureurs ,om anderen te beschermen .

voor je het weet heb je een pandemie gaande in de paddock.

er zijn reserve coureurs genoeg , en dit is een mooie kans om ze ook wat uren te laten maken in een F1 auto

  Precies, er loopt nog een andere coureur op de paddock rond en die vond het het ergste wat ie tot nu toe in zijn leven had meegemaakt. En hij heeft al vreselijke dingen in zijn leven meegemaakt dus dat zegt wel wat.

  Precies… en pas op voor long-COVID. Laat je goed, heel goed verzorgen!!!
  Er is bewezen door ene andere niet nader te benoemen coureur, dat zijn prestaties in 2021 er enorm onder geleden hebben.
