Ricciardo volledig hersteld van coronabesmetting: "Voel mij prima"

Het was afgelopen week een week vol stress voor Daniel Ricciardo. De Australische McLaren-coureur voelde zich tijdens de wintertest in Bahrein niet lekker waardoor hij niet in actie kon komen. Uiteindelijk testte hij positief op het coronavirus en even leek het erop dat de seizoensopener voor hem in gevaar kwam.

Eerder deze week mocht hij echter zijn zelfisolatie verlaten en testte hij weer negatief op het virus. Hij kan dus gewoon aan de start verschijnen van de Grand Prix van Bahrein. De goedlachse Australiër was niet de enige coureur die te maken kreeg met COVID-19, Sebastian Vettel moet de seizoensopener wel missen door een positieve test.

Prima

Ricciardo lijkt geen langdurige gevolgen van zijn besmetting te ondervinden. De eeuwig lachende McLaren-coureur verscheen donderdag gewoon weer in de paddock en vandaag was hij gewoon aanwezig bij de persmomenten. Tegenover de internationale media sprak hij zich uit: "Ik voel mij prima. Het was de eerste keer dat ik te maken kreeg met het coronavirus. Voor de rest van de wereld is het inmiddels niets nieuws meer. Bijna iedereen heeft het al gehad."

Symptomen

De Australiër heeft de horrorverhalen van long Covid ook meegekregen. Voorlopig lijkt hij deze dans te zijn ontsprongen, denkt hij zelf. "Je hoort verhalen over verschillende symptomen, soms duren ze lang en soms heel kort. De tijd zal het leren of ik nog last ga krijgen. Op donderdag heb ik echter al een mediadag afgewerkt met een gevuld programma. Ik voelde na afloop goed en ik had nog energie over."

Het lijkt er eerder op dat Ricciardo de auto besmet heeft, want het tempo zit er niet bepaald in. Het is niet te hopen voor ze dat ze een gedrocht hebben gebouwd bij McLaren.
