Mercedes toont respect voor Bottas na superkwalificatie

Tot vorig jaar was Valtteri Bottas de trouwe tweede coureur van Mercedes. Sinds dit jaar is hij echter coureur van Alfa Romeo, zijn Mercedes-stoeltje is ingenomen door George Russell. Het respect voor Bottas is nog steeds aanwezig bij de Duitse renstal, hij kreeg immers een reusachtig afscheid bij zijn vertrek.

Ook in Bahrein is er veel onderling respect. Bottas kwalificeerde zich op een knappe zesde plaats en mag daardoor de derde startrij delen met zijn voormalig teamgenoot Lewis Hamilton. De Brit en Mercedes hebben nog zeer veel respect voor Bottas. Op sociale media delen ze een foto waarop Hamilton zijn waardering voor Bottas laat blijken.

      Die best teammate opmerking van Lewis sloeg op het feit dat Bottas hem het meeste hielp, niet op bottas' coureurs kwaliteiten ;)

      Jammer voor Russell dat hij net instapt op moment dat Mercedes een hok van een auto heeft gebouwd. Het is te hopen dat ze de problemen snel te boven komen, want ik zou graag Russell zien meestrijden vooraan met Leclerc en Verstappen.

      Hij heeft wel de pech dat Mercedes nu in het ‘middenveld’ zit. Dat is makkelijker/moeilijker om verschil te maken. Als hij nu ook eens een Bottas niet voorbij komt straks ziet het er gelijk al slecht uit. Ik hoop dat Russell er staat vandaag. Zou t sneu vinden als hij door de mand gaat vallen.

      Het is ook makkelijker om prettig met elkaar om te gaan wanneer het klasseverschil wat racen betreft heel helder is dan wanneer je elkaars directe concurrent bent.

      Neemt niet weg dat dit een mooi moment was…

    Ik vind Lewis nu al veel menselijker overkomen dit jaar. Mooi om te zien. Misschien dat hij het pure racen ook weer meer kan waarderen Ipv steeds die 8e titel.

      Nope.
      Alleen heeft onze Kale Reiger per ongeluk bij een fan-meet & greet z’n zenuwen niet in bedwang kunnen houden, en vanuit zijn cloaca al zijn darminhoud ongecontroleerd naar buiten geperst. Helaas voor Lewis stond hij té dichtbij, en in de baan van die Reiger-fletsss.

      Het resultaat van die zure Reigersbos zien we op de foto’s. Ach, de donkere gevlochten manen van Lewis vond ik mooier persoonlijk.

    Blij voor Bottas, mooi van Lewis en hard voor George. Ferrari krachtbronnen hebben een behoorlijke upgrade gemaakt - zowel in acceleratie als in geleidelijke afgifte van kracht zijn die nu de beste van de klas. Dat belooft ook voor de start van morgen daar acceleratie een groot pluspunt is.

    George probeerde met een andere aanloopronde wat te forceren wat een omgekeerd effect had. Het resultaat is intussen gekend. Bij een Williams is dat geen probleem, in een Mercedes wordt dat meteen afgestraft. Les 1 is meteen een feit. Nu zien hoe die Mercedes en de nieuwe regels werken om door het verkeer te snijden. Het verbruik van de banden wordt straks ook heel belangrijk op de abrasieve ondergrond hier. Dit gaat een leuke race worden vooraan en in het middenveld!

      Ik ben heel benieuwd hoe de auto’s zich gedragen in vuile lucht. Hoe het inhalen is of er we nogsteeds die ‘DRS train’ gaan krijgen. In jaren niet zoveel zin gehad in een nieuw seizoen.
