Magnussen kijkt uit naar Jeddah-debuut: "Zag eruit als een spectaculaire baan"

Het team van Haas beleefde een droomweekend in Bahrein. De Amerikaanse renstal kende een onrustige winter maar bij de seizoensopener vielen alle puzzelstukjes op de juiste plaats. Ze toonden aan niet meer het lelijke eendje te zijn en er werden dikke punten gescoord door Kevin Magnussen, de Deen werd vijfde.

Ook teamgenoot Mick Schumacher reed een puike race maar kon deze net niet belonen met punten. Dit weekend krijgt hij een nieuwe kans want de Grand Prix van Saoedi-Arabië staat alweer op de agenda. Voor Magnussen betekent dat de eerste keer racen op het Jeddah Corniche Circuit, de Deen was immers vorig jaar niet actief in de Formule 1.

Televisie

Magnussen leeft momenteel in een soort droom en geniet van zijn status als succesvolle comeback kid. De Deense vervanger van de ontslagen Nikita Mazepin kijkt reikhalzend uit naar zijn eerste race in Jeddah. In een persbericht spreekt hij zich uit: "Toen ik de race vorig jaar op televisie bekeek zag het eruit als een spectaculaire baan, het is een hele snelle baan aangezien het een stratencircuit is. Ik kijk er enorm naar uit want ik ben dol op stratencircuits en het ziet eruit als een uitdaging. Ik ken de baan niet dus het duurt een paar rondjes voordat ik eraan gewend ben."

Zwakke punten

De Deen is in ieder geval positief gestemd over zijn VF-22. Magnussen weet echter wel dat er nog genoeg te leren valt over zijn wagen: "We hebben afgelopen weekend veel geleerd over onze auto maar op dit punt is het lastig om iets te zeggen over de sterke en zwakke punten van onze auto. Als je achter het stuur zit voelt het niet alsof er enorme zwakke punten zijn."

Vind het met name mooi voor Steiner dat Haas momenteel in de lift zit.
Hoe vaak zal hij wel niet op zijn tong gebeten hebben de afgelopen jaren…
