Verstappen blijft kritisch na Bahrein-flater: "Kan niet teveel van dat soort races hebben"

Max Verstappen begint vandaag aan zijn poging om sportieve revanche te nemen. In Saoedi-Arabië krijgt de Nederlander immers direct weer een kans om zich te revancheren na zijn ongelukkige uitvalbeurt in Bahrein. Zijn team Red Bull Racing heeft in ieder geval de problemen opgelost die zorgden voor de uitvalbeurten van Verstappen en zijn teamgenoot Sergio Perez.

Met de snelheid van de Red Bull zat het in ieder geval wel helemaal snor. In Bahrein was Verstappen vrijwel het gehele weekend snel en ook tijdens de race liep alles aardig op rolletjes. Hij duelleerde met Charles Leclerc om de koppositie en op het uitvalmoment reed hij op een keurige tweede plaats. Het is dan ook de verwachting dat Verstappen en Perez ook in Jeddah weer zeer rap zullen zijn dit weekend.

Niet blij

Verstappen blijft tijdens de gebruikelijke persconferentie in ieder geval zijn kritische zelf. Hij kijkt dan ook niet tevreden terug op de seizoensopener. Tegenover de aanwezige pers is hij duidelijk: "Ik ben niet helemaal blij want ik lag toen alsnog op de tweede plek. Dat waren aardig wat punten maar jammer genoeg kwamen we niet over de finish. Toch hebben wij er gewoon van geleerd want we hebben weer ongeveer een hele race achter de kiezen. Er is weer veel informatie beschikbaar geworden."

Eisen

De Nederlandse regerend wereldkampioen blijft zijn eigen kritische zelf. Hij heeft namelijk ook nog wat moeite met zijn nieuwe bolide, de RB18. De wagen voldoet namelijk niet geheel aan de eisen van Verstappen, die niet duidelijk maakt wat die eisen zijn. "Nee dat deed hij niet. Ik had persoonlijk echt veel meer verwacht. Maar wij hebben hier zo onze eigen redenen voor."

Slecht

Verstappens uitvalbeurt was in ieder geval ook niet geheel naar wens. De Red Bull-coureur is echter wel hard voor zichzelf en zijn team. "Het was best slecht maar we kunnen daar nu niet zoveel meer aan doen. We moeten het echt betere doen als we voor de titels willen vechten. Je kan echter niet veel van dit soort races hebben als we voor de wereldtitel willen gaan vechten."

Ik heb ergens anders gelezen dat ze de wagen niet tot het uiterste gepusht hebben tijdens de test in Bahrein. Vandaar dat sommige problemen nu pas aan het licht komen. Ik ben benieuwd naar de prestaties van de wagens tijdens de race.

Had hij niet 3 uitvalbeurten vorig jaar?

Het kan wel, maar het zal allemaal goed moeten vallen, het gat naar Ferrari moet gedicht, wat denk ik niet groot was en Mercedes moet nog een paar races issues houden.

  Als je die 10e plaats in Hongarije meetelt wel. Wat er bijna gelijk aan staat. Je kan ze ook wel hebben. Maar als je al een kruisje moet zetten bij de eerste race kan je je niet veel meer veroorloven in de 22 races die nog te gaan zijn. Zeker niet met een sterk Ferrari.

  Ferrari is wel vaker sterk geweest in Bahrein en de rest van het seizoen niet. Het gat is niet zo groot hoor.

  Ferrari gaat ook nog wel mindere weekenden krijgen hoor.. De marge van Red Bull is nu alleen meteen al kleiner wat dat betreft.. Qua snelheid maak ik me geen zorgen.. Max zat er in Barhein gewoon goed bij.. Het is niet alsof Leclerc daar echt ver van hem wegreed..
