Magnussen en Hülkenberg begraven strijdbijl: "Hij zei suck my balls tegen mij"

Kevin Magnussen keerde in Bahrein weer terug op de grid na een jaar van afwezigheid. De Deen is bij Haas de vervanger van de ontslagen Nikita Mazepin en zijn comeback verliep naar wens. In Bahrein werd hij verrassend vijfde en dit weekend wil hij in Saoedi-Arabië dat resultaat een vervolg geven.

In Bahrein en Saoedi-Arabië kwam de Deen ook Nico Hülkenberg weer tegen. De Duitser vervangt de met corona besmette Sebastian Vettel bij Aston Martin. De twee coureurs hebben nogal een verleden met elkaar, dat gaat terug naar naar 2017. Toentertijd waren de twee niet echt vrienden van elkaar. Op een gegeven moment beet Hülkenberg zijn Deense rivaal toe dat hij niet zo sportief was. Magnussen riep de gevleugelde uitspraak 'Suck my balls, honey'.

Nu jaren later kunnen de twee coureurs wel lachen om het moment. Magnussen vertelt er lachend over in gesprek met Ekstra Bladet: "Nou, Nico kwam dus hier naar mij toe en zei tegen mij 'suck my balls'. Wij konden er allebei wel om lachen hoor. Het was zelfs de eerste keer dat wij elkaar spraken sinds dat moment van toentertijd."

Respect

Magnussen voelt dan ook geen enkel wrok jegens zijn Duitse inval-collega. De Deense Haas-coureur is zelfs zeer positief over Hülkenberg: "Ik heb het al vaker gezegd maar ik heb enorm veel respect voor Nico als coureur. Ik ken hem niet zo goed persoonlijk. Ik heb nu voor het eerst met hem gesproken sinds vijf jaar."

Ik dacht dat het Ericson was die dat had gezegd. Valt me toch tegen van Ericson dat hij het niet was, maar Magnussen. Hevige teleurstelling enzovoorts.
