Marko leeft mee met voormalig oogappel Vettel: "Dan is de motivatie ver te zoeken"

Sebastian Vettel keert aankomend weekend weer terug in de Formule 1. De Duitse Aston Martin-coureur kampte de afgelopen weken met een coronabesmetting, hierdoor miste hij de eerste twee races. De viervoudig wereldkampioen moest dus noodgedwongen het spektakel vanaf de zijlijn aanschouwen en zag dat hij werd vervangen door Nico Hülkenberg.

Vettel zag dat Hülkenberg en teamgenoot Lance Stroll vochten met hun bolides. De nieuwe Aston Martin is zeker geen superwagen en men weet dat punten ver buiten bereik zijn. Het is vermoedelijk een bittere teleurstelling voor Vettel, de Duitser aast op nog één succesje in de nadagen van zijn glanzende loopbaan.

Motivatie

Vettel is immers een viervoudig wereldkampioen. De Duitser won al zijn titels in dienst van Red Bull Racing. Bij de Oostenrijkse renstal kijken ze nog altijd met gemengde gevoelens naar de verrichtingen van Vettel. Red Bull-adviseur Helmut Marko leeft mee met zijn voormalig pupil, zo laat hij weten aan Formel 1: "Als niet kan meevechten voor de punten, dan is de motivatie ook ver te zoeken. Maar een gemotiveerde Vettel is met een auto die kan meedoen om de punten nog steeds snel. Dat zagen we in Bakoe en Monaco."

Maar Marko denkt dat de motivatie bij Vettel momenteel historisch laag is. De Oostenrijker heeft het er echter niet over gehad met zijn voormalige oogappel. "Met hoe Aston Martin momenteel presteert denk ik persoonlijk niet dat hij heel erg gemotiveerd zou zijn. We hebben losjes nog wat contact met elkaar. Maar als we met elkaar praten, dan gaat het regelmatig over heel erg andere dingen dan alleen de Formule 1."

  Dat hier op het forum grappen worden gemaakt over mensen met een (ernstige) aandoening of beperking vind ik ook drie keer niks, maar in de wetenschap dat er overal tokkies zijn, lees ik daar meestal maar omheen…

Ik beb benieuwd hoe Vettel presteert in Melbourne. Iedereen praat over zijn vermeende lage motivatie, maar misschien kan hij goed overweg met de auto en rijdt hij in de punten. Laten we dus het weekend eerst maar eens afwachten en ook kijken hoe hij de pers te woord staat. Dan zien we vanzelf hoe zijn ogen staan, om nog een link naar het "oogappel" woord te maken ;-)

  precies dit. Kijk eens naar Magnussen, krijgt het voor elkaar de HAAS in de punten te rijden iets dat Mick nog niet is gelukt.
  
  Het kan dus best zijn dat Vettel een betere afstelling vind met de AM. (ik hoop het )

Ik zou het me goed kunnen voorstellen dat Vettel er zelf de brui aan geeft.
Er is voor hem geen eer te behalen met deze auto dus wordt het achteraan meehobbelen. En gezien de budgetbeperkingen is het ook niet realistisch te verwachten dat dat in de loop van het seizoen of zelfs voor komend seizoen significant gaat verbeteren. Kortom, Vettel rijdt in zijn laatste seizoen(en) ergens achterin mee. Daar kan hij toch niet vrolijk van worden, lijkt me.
Als hij nu stopt, kan Hülkenberg zo instappen dus dat is ook geen probleem qua continuïteit.

Misschien tijd voor Vettel om een leuke sidekick te worden van Button. Iedereen houdt van die vent en hij is nog grappig ook. Maar Hulkenberg als vaste vervanger? Oh, nee! Genoeg fris talent aan de zijlijn.
