Susie Wolff zeer positief over Drive to Survive: "Deur geopend"

De Netflix-reeks Drive To Survive is een groot succes maar ook een bron van kritiek. De streamingsgigant gaat immers nogal creatief om met de waarheid. Met enig regelmaat verschijnen er boordradio's bij compleet andere beelden en met goed knip en plak werk creëert men niet bestaande rivaliteiten.

Veel fans beginnen zich dan ook op kritische wijze uit te spreken over de documentaire-reeks. Het knip en plak werk zet veel kwaad bloed bij supporters, maar zeker ook bij coureurs. Regerend wereldkampioen Max Verstappen is er bijvoorbeeld nogal duidelijk over. De Nederlandse Red Bull-coureur is het niet eens met de werkwijze en hij werkt dan ook niet meer mee aan de reeks.

Deur geopend

Toch klinken er vanuit de sport wel enkele positieve geluiden. Sommigen zien namelijk dat de Netflix-reeks een rol speelt bij het verbreden van het publiek van de Formule 1. Voormalig coureur Susie Wolff is bijvoorbeeld zeer positief over de serie. De Schotse, tevens vrouw van Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff, sprak zich uit in de podcast Beyond The Grid: "Drive to Survive heeft iets goeds gedaan voor de Formule 1. Het heeft de deur geopend voor een breder publiek."

Menselijke element

Wolff, zelf CEO van het Formule E-team van Venturi, merkt dat de doelgroep niet langer bestaat uit mannen en racefreaks. De Schotse is duidelijk in haar analyse: "Ik zie dat er meer jonge meiden en vrouwen geïnteresseerd raken in de Formule 1 door Drive to Survive. Ik denk dat de sport voorheen werd gezien als een plek die werd gedragen door technologie, nu ziet men meer het menselijke element."

Waarom iemand zonder enige functie in de F1 zo vaak in beeld moet is mij een raadsel.

      Ricciardo zal het ook vast een mooie serie vinden, die krijgt waarschijnlijk al 4 seizoenen betaald door Netflix om als hoofdpersoon te worden gevolgd.

      Dat vond ik inderdaad ook Vosje... zou bijna denken dat mevrouw Wolff een zeer vooraanstaand persoon is in de F1. Eigenlijk draaide het hele seizoen nu om Toto Wolff, Susie Wolff, Christian Horner, Gunther Steiner met een bijrol voor Geri Horner... de rest waren figuranten.

      @Jane ze is sympathiek. Ik heb 2 dagen lang tijdens een AMG training met haar opgetroken. Geeft dus weer eens aan dat Netflix en de realitiet toch niet aansluiten op elkaar.

      Dhr. en mevr. Wolff zijn zelf behoorlijk media-ge1l kennelijk. Overigens net zoals dhr. Horner, dhr. Steiner en Sir Hamilton die zich graag en vaak in beeld laten brengen en er kennelijk van genieten. Een soap is er niks bij!

      Overigens schreef ik hier ooit dat ik Mercedes als een Engels team onder Duitse vlag zag en werd dat door velen als onzin weggezet omdat het Duitse volkslied wordt gespeeld als zij winnen, maar als ik DTS kijk zie ik toch echt een compleet Engels team, alleen dan onder leiding van een Duitser die het meeste weg heeft van een slecht acterende Duitse kolonel uit een WWII film uit de jaren ‘70.

      En de grootste ironie schuilt in dat de familie Wolf van het kijken naar DTS zelf niet eens doorheeft dat Toto vrij psychotisch overkomt.

    Oh ja die serie was ik helemaal vergeten, ik heb 2 afleveringen gezien en geen idee waar het over ging. Iets met een fittie tussen Ricciardo en Lando ofzo. Het komt erg in de buurt van een soapserie en daar heb ik een hekel aan.
