Ricciardo hoopt op succesvolle thuisrace: "Puntenfinish momenteel hoogst haalbare"

Aankomend weekend staat de derde Grand Prix van het jaar op het programma. In Melbourne zal de meeste aandacht uitgaan naar Daniel Ricciardo. De goedlachse McLaren-coureur zal voor het eerst sinds 2019 weer een thuisrace rijden en hij zal er alles aan gaan doen om zijn landgenoten te laten juichen.

Het wordt een moeilijke klus voor de Australiër, zijn bolide is immers niet de snelste van het stel. De McLaren was de afgelopen jaren een baken van vertrouwen en ambitie, dit jaar valt de wagen echter tegen. Ricciardo en teamgenoot Lando Norris kunnen de concurrentie maar lastig bijhouden en enkele puntjes lijken echt het hoogst haalbare.

Puntenfinish

Ondanks de valse start van het seizoen blijft Ricciardo een man van positieve gedachten. De veranderingen aan het circuit in Albert Park stemmen hem namelijk tevreden. Tegenover Motorsport.com laat hij zijn licht schijnen op zijn kansen: "Door de veranderde baan lijkt het een stuk vloeiendere en sneller te worden. Hopelijk komt alles dan iets maar naar ons toe en kunnen we strijden voor punten. Het is niet veel maar een puntenfinish is momenteel het hoogste waar we ons op kunnen richten."

Eenmalig

De eerste twee races van het seizoen waren niet bepaald succesvol voor de Australiër. Toch ging het in Saoedi-Arabië ietsje beter dan in Bahrein. Ricciardo: "Dat het in Saoedi-Arabië zo goed ging lag meer aan de karakteristieken van het circuit, ik hoop dus dat Bahrein eenmalig was. We hadden daar ook problemen met onze remmen maar die hebben we inmiddels opgelost. Ik denk dat Jeddah gewoon beter bij ons paste."

Het is maar te hopen voor Ricciardo dat hij niet weer door Norris verslagen wordt. Als dat zo is dan kan dit wellicht zijn F1-einde betekenen. 2x verslagen worden door dezelfde jongen is eenmaal gelijk aan degradatie en dat zal een flinke waardedaling betekenen.
Laten we hopen dat het goed komt want het is hem gegund.

  Niet alleen een waardedaling, maar stel dat McLaren zijn contract dan niet verlengd, bij welk team zou hij dan nog terecht kunnen in de F1?

Daniel rijdt als 'n natte krant.........maar blijft wél lachen.

Bij McLaren is het lachen onderhand wel over denk.

Waar Lando verleden jaar nog de punten flink aan elkaar reeg reed Ricciardo zomaar wat rondjes.......en daar deed die racewinst niets aan af.

Komend weekend wordt de wederopstanding van Ricciardo. Zijn wijn toegevoegd aan de E10 brandstof maakt dat de McLaren als een raket gaat. Daniel gaat de race na pole met 6 vingers in zijn neus winnen. Lando wordt op gepaste afstand tweede. Heb al ingezet krijg straks 276x mijn inzet!!
