Uitslag VT3 Australië: Norris snelste in spannende training, beide Aston Martins crashen

De laatste vrije training in Melbourne zit er alweer op. De snelste tijd op het circuit in Albert Park werd gereden door Lando Norris. Daarachter werd de tweede tijd van de dag genoteerd door niemand minder dan Charles Leclerc. De derde tijd in de derde training was voor Sergio Perez.

De laatste training in Albert Park begon redelijk rustig. Guanyu Zhou kwam als eerste de baan op en slechts een handjevol collega's volgden zijn voorbeeld. De toppers wachtten wat langer en na vijf minuten was Max Verstappen de eerste van de favorieten op de baan. Verstappen en zijn teamgenoot Sergio Perez waren dan ook de eerste mannen die een snelle tijd noteerden, dat deden ze wel op de mediums.

Vettel

Na een kwartier werd het echt druk op het Australische asfalt. Net als gisteren betekende dat ook dat veel coureurs een tripje maakten door de grindbakken. Lewis Hamilton ging wijd in de derde sector, hij schampte de muur maar kon zijn weg vervolgen. Luttele seconden later deed Sebastian Vettel dit nog eens dunnetjes over. De Duitse Aston Martin-coureur had echter minder geluk. De onfortuinlijke Vettel crashte en de rode vlag kwam uit. De viervoudig wereldkampioen was oké maar de schade aan zijn wagen was zeker niet mals.

Verstappen

Na het oponthoud van de rode vlag kwamen de overige coureurs weer massaal naar buiten. Verstappen haalde bij het uitrijden van de pitstraat een AlphaTauri in en de wedstrijdleider noteerde het moment. De Nederlander hoeft echter niet te vrezen voor een straf want men besloot er niets mee te doen. De sessie verliep daarna niet voorspoedig voor de regerend wereldkampioen. Hij spinde in de laatste bocht en in zijn laatste vliegende ronde was hij iets té enthousiast in bocht 1.

Verrassingen

Fernando Alonso kende daarentegen wel een puike sessie. De ervaren Spanjaard noteerde in zijn Alpine de snelste tijd en beëindigde de sessie als vierde. Verstappen kwam tot zijn beurt niet verder dan de zevende tijd. Ook Carlos Sainz had wat moeite, en last van Nicholas Latifi, waardoor hij slechts de vijfde tijd reed. De zesde tijd was er verrassend genoeg voor Daniel Ricciardo. De McLarens lijken de snelheid te hebben gevonden in Melbourne.

Aston Martin

In de slotminuten van de training werden de problemen voor Aston Martin alleen maar erger. Vettel crashte al in het begin van de training maar zijn teamgenoot Lance Stroll maakte het alleen maar erger. De Canadees schoot van de baan en vond zichzelf terug in de muur. De rode vlag werd weer gezwaaid en de sessie werd vroegtijdig afgebroken. De meeste teams kunnen zich concentreren op de kwalificatie maar bij Aston Martin zal men moeten sleutelen.

Verstappen zevende, hij kon geen ronde aan elkaar knopen op softs en is de enige in de top-tien die zijn snelste tijd op mediums reed.

Het ging niet echt lekker bij Max ook had ik het idee, 2 maal de rode vlag dat werkte ook niet echt mee.

Over een paar uurtjes is kijken waar iedereen staat na Q3.

  Klopt dat het nog niet super gaat, want de reden dat Verstappen zijn snelste rondje op mediums reed, is omdat hij op het laatst twee keer een ronde op de zachte band afbrak.
